His saying, the Exalted: "And they rejoice."
4497 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And they rejoice," meaning: they are happy with the joining of those who join them from their brothers who were upon what they themselves were upon in their jihad, so that they may join them in the reward from Allah which He gave them.
His saying, the Exalted: "For those who have not yet joined them."
4498 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And they rejoice for those who have not yet joined them from those behind them," he said: When they entered the Garden and saw the honor therein for the martyrs, they said: "If only our brothers who are in the world knew what we have come to know of the honor! For if they were to witness the fighting, they would engage in it with their own selves until they were martyred, so that they might attain the good that we have attained." So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was informed of their affair and the honor they are in, and he told them: "I have revealed [this] to your Prophet, and I have informed him of your affair and what you are in." So they rejoiced at that; that is His saying: "And they rejoice for those who have not yet joined them from those behind them"—the verse.
4499 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And they rejoice for those who have not yet joined them from those behind them," for indeed, the martyr is brought a scroll in which is [the name of] whomever is to come to him of his brothers and family. It is said: "So-and-so is coming to you on such-and-such day; so-and-so is coming to you on such-and-such day." He rejoices when he comes to him just as the family of one who is absent rejoices at his arrival in the world.
His saying, the Exalted: "From those behind them."
4500 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: "And they rejoice for those who have not yet joined them from those behind them," meaning: their brothers from the people of the world, that they will be eager for jihad and will join them.
His saying, the Exalted: "No fear will there be upon them."
4501 - And by the same chain, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "No fear will there be upon them," meaning: in the Hereafter.
