4530 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "And bounty, no evil touched them," he said: The evil is: the killing.
His saying, the Exalted: "And they pursued the pleasure of Allah."
4531 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to us, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "And they pursued the pleasure of Allah," he said: They obeyed Allah and His Messenger, and they pursued their need.
His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah is possessor of great bounty."
4532 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi‘ narrated to us, Ibn Idris narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, regarding His saying: "And Allah is possessor of great bounty," he said: Because of what He turned away from them in terms of meeting their enemy.
His saying, the Exalted: "It is only Satan who frightens his allies."
[The First Aspect]
4533 - Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi narrated to us, Abu Dawud al-Hafari narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Talhah ibn ‘Amr, from ‘Ata’, from Ibn ‘Abbas that he used to recite: "It is only that Satan frightens you of his allies." Abu Muhammad said: In the tafsir of Ibn ‘Abbas from the narration of ‘Atiyyah al-‘Awfi, he said: Satan came to frighten [them about] his allies and said: Indeed, the people have gathered against you.
It was also narrated from Mujahid, ‘Ikrimah, and Ibrahim al-Nakha‘i.
And the Second Aspect:
4534 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Kathir al-‘Abdi narrated to us, Sulayman ibn Kathir informed us, from Husayn, from Abu Malik, regarding His saying: "It is only Satan who frightens his allies," he said: He makes his allies appear great in your eyes.
4535 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: Then he mentioned the polytheists and their greatness in the eyes of the hypocrites, so he said: "It is only Satan who frightens his allies," he said: He makes his allies appear great in your hearts, so you fear them.
