And it was revealed concerning him: "Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Book, they believe in al-Jibt (sorcery/idolatry) and al-Taghut (idols/false deities)..." up to the end of the verse.
5441 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr, from 'Ikrimah who said: Huyayy ibn Akhtab and Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf came to the people of Makkah and said to them: "You are the people of the Book and the people of knowledge, so inform us about ourselves and about Muhammad." They asked: "What are you, and what is Muhammad?" They replied: "We join kinship ties, we slaughter the fatty-humped camels, we mix water with milk, we liberate the captives, and we provide water for the pilgrims; while Muhammad is a 'sunbur' (an isolated person) who has cut our kinship ties, and he is followed by the thieves of the pilgrims from the tribe of Ghaffar. So are we better, or is he?" They said: "You are better and more rightly guided in path." So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Book, they believe in al-Jibt and al-Taghut and say to those who disbelieve: 'These are more rightly guided in path than those who believe.'"
