4047 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding "Here you are, you love them, but they do not love you," he said: By Allah, the believer indeed treats the hypocrite with kindness, takes him in, and shows him mercy, yet if the hypocrite were capable of what the believer is capable of, he would have utterly annihilated him.
The second interpretation:
4048 - Muhammad ibn Ghalib al-Baghdadi narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Ash'ath narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Amr ibn Malik al-Nukri narrated to us, he said: I heard my father narrating from Abu al-Jawza' regarding His saying: "Here you are, you love them, but they do not love you," he said: They are the Abadiyyah.
The third interpretation:
4049 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding "You love them," meaning: the Jews, "but they do not love you."
His saying, the Exalted: "And you believe in the Book"
4050 - And by the same chain from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "And you believe in the Book," [meaning] all of it: the Book of Muhammad, and the Book that was before Muhammad.
His saying, the Exalted: "And when they meet you, they say, 'We believe.'"
[The first interpretation]
4051 - Muhammad ibn Ghalib narrated to us, Sa'id—meaning Ibn Ash'ath—narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Amr ibn Malik narrated to us, he said: I heard my father narrating from Abu al-Jawza', when he used to recite this verse: "And when they meet you, they say, 'We believe,'" he said: This verse was revealed regarding the Abadiyyah.
The second interpretation:
4052 - I read to Muhammad, Muhammad narrated to us, from Bukayr, from Muqatil, regarding His saying: "And when they meet you, they say, 'We believe,'" he says: The hypocrites, when they meet the believers, show faith; so they love them for what they have shown them, and they think that they are truthful in what they say, and they do not know what is in their hearts of doubt and disbelief in the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, regarding His saying: "And when they meet you," he says: The people of hypocrisy, when they meet the believers, they say: "We believe," while they have no motive except fear for their blood and their wealth.
٤٠٤٧ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ها أنتم أولاء تحبونهم ولا يحبونكم فو الله إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ لَيُحْسِنْ إِلَى الْمُنَافِقِ، وَيَأْوِي لَهُ، وَيَرْحَمُهُ وَلَوْ أَنَّ الْمُنَافِقَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَى مَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ الْمُؤْمِنُ لأَبَادَ خَضْرَاءَهُ.

٤٠٤٨ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَشْعَثَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ النُّكْرِيُّ قَالَ: سمعت أبي يحدث عن أبي الجوزاء في قَوْلِهِ: هَا أَنْتُمْ أُولاءِ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ وَلا يُحِبُّونَكُمْ قَالَ: هُمُ الأَبَاضِيَّةُ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٤٠٤٩ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ يَعْنِي الْيَهُودَ وَلا يُحِبُّونَكُمْ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْكِتَابِ
٤٠٥٠ - وَبِهِ عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَوْلَهُ: وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْكِتَابِ كُلِّهِ كِتَابُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَالْكِتَابُ الَّذِي كَانَ مِنْ قَبْلَ مُحَمَّدٍ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِذَا لَقُوكُمْ قَالُوا آمنا

٤٠٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ، ثنا سَعِيدُ يَعْنِي ابن أشعث، ثنا يحيي بن عمرو ابن مَالِكٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَوْزَاءِ كَانَ إِذَا تَلا هَذِهِ الآيَةَ وَإِذَا لقوكم قالوا آمنا قَالَ: نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةِ فِي الأَبَاضِيَّةِ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٤٠٥٢ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدٌ، عَنْ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ مُقَاتِلٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَإِذَا لَقُوكُمْ قَالُوا آمَنَّا يَعْنِي: الْمُنَافِقِينَ إِذَا لَقُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَظْهَرُوا الإِيمَانَ فَيُحِبُّونَهُمْ عَلَى مَا أَظْهَرُوا لَهُمْ، وَيَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُمْ صَادِقُونَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ وَلا يَعْلَمُونَ بِمَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مِنَ الشَّكِّ وَالْكُفْرِ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ قَوْلَهُ: وَإِذَا لَقُوكُمْ يَعْنِي أَهْلَ النِّفَاقِ إِذَا لَقُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالُوا: آمَنَّا لَيْسَ بِهِمْ إِلا مَخَافَةٌ عَلَى دِمَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ.
