His saying, the Exalted: "And do not grieve"

4220 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "So do not weaken and do not grieve, while you are the superior"—he said: Meaning the companions of Muhammad, as you hear. He urges them to fight their enemy and forbids them from incapacity and weakness in pursuing their enemy in the path of Allah.

His saying, the Exalted: "while you are the superior"

4221 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, al-Muharibi narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak: "while you are the superior," he said: And you are the victors.

4222 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "while you are the superior," meaning: the ultimate outcome and ascendancy shall be yours.

4223 - 'Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed us in what he wrote to me, Zayd ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj: "while you are the superior," he said: The companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, were defeated in the mountain pass on the day of Uhud, and the cavalry of the polytheists ascended above them on the mountain, and the Muslims were at the bottom of the mountain pass. Then a group of Muslims, the archers, were called upon, so they pelted the polytheists' cavalry until Allah defeated the cavalry of the polytheists and the Muslims ascended the mountain; that is the meaning of His saying: "while you are the superior."

His saying, the Exalted: "if you are believers"

4224 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "if you are believers," meaning: If you have believed in My Prophet regarding what he brought to you from Me.

His saying, the Exalted: "If a wound touches you"

4225 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn 'Umar al-'Adani narrated to us, al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, he said: The Muslims regretted how they had left [the situation] between him and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ascended the mountain, and Abu Sufyan gathered his assembly, and what happened of their affair happened. When the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ascended the mountain, Abu Sufyan came and said: "O Muhammad! Will you not come out? Warfare alternates; one day for us and one day for you." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to his companions: "Answer him and say: It is not the same; our killed ones are in Paradise, and your killed ones are in the Fire." Abu Sufyan said: "We have al-'Uzza, and you have no 'Uzza." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Say: Allah is our Protector and you have no protector." Abu Sufyan said: "Exalt Hubal." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Allah is Most High and Most Majestic." Abu Sufyan said: "Our appointment and your appointment is the minor Badr." The Muslims slept while they were wounded. 'Ikrimah said: It was regarding them that it was revealed: "If a wound touches you, then a similar wound has certainly touched the [disbelieving] people. And these days We alternate among the people."
