The Second Aspect:

[6552] Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, from his father, from 'Atiyyah, he said: Concerning 'Ubadah, it was revealed: "Your ally is none but Allah, His Messenger..." to the end of the verse.

His saying, the Almighty: "And whoever takes Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed as allies [will find that] the party of Allah is the predominant [one]."

[6553] My father narrated to us, al-Asbagh al-Harrani narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, my father Ishaq ibn Yasar narrated to me, from 'Ubadah ibn al-Walid, from 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit, he said: "And whoever takes Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed as allies [will find that] the party of Allah is the predominant [one]" was revealed. That was because of 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit's statement: "I take Allah and His Messenger as my ally," and his disavowal of the Banu Qaynuqa' regarding their alliance and their guardianship.

His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, the party of Allah are the predominant ones."

[6554] Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "Indeed, the party of Allah are the predominant ones," he said: Then He informed them—meaning the Lord, may He be glorified and exalted—who the predominant ones are, and He said: Do not fear the political turn or the rotation [of fortune], so He said: "And whoever takes Allah and His Messenger as allies..." to the end of the verse.

His saying, the Almighty: "O you who have believed, take not those who have taken your religion in ridicule and amusement among the ones who were given the Scripture before you."

[6555] Through him, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "Take not those who have taken your religion in ridicule and amusement among the ones who were given the Scripture before you," he said: He forbade them and warned them.

[6556] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad said: Rifa'ah ibn Zayd ibn al-Tabut and Suwayd ibn al-Harith had manifested Islam but became hypocrites, and there were men from the Muslims who maintained ties with them. So Allah revealed concerning them: "O you who have believed, take not those who have taken your religion in ridicule and amusement among the ones who were given the Scripture before you and the disbelievers as allies. And fear Allah, if you should be believers."

His saying, the Almighty: "And when you call to prayer, they take it in ridicule and amusement. That is because they are a people who do not use reason."
