[6673] My father narrated to me, Yahya ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, Hudhayl al-Hamadhani narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from Salim, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "That is because among them are priests and monks," he said: They are the companions of the Negus (al-Najashi); he sent thirty men from among the best of his companions to the Messenger of God (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he recited to them (Surah) Ya-Sin. They wept and said: "We acknowledge, by God." So it was revealed regarding them.
[6674] My father narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Bara’ ibn Yazid narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Hasan regarding His saying: "That is because among them are priests and monks," he said: Their scholars and their jurists.
His saying, the Almighty: "And that they are not arrogant."
[6675] Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us, in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And that they are not arrogant," he said: The Negus sent twelve men to the Messenger of God (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), seven priests and five monks, to observe him and ask him. When they met him and he recited to them what was revealed to him, they wept and were grieved, so God revealed regarding them: "And that they are not arrogant."
His saying, the Almighty: "And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger."
[6676] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ narrated to us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears," he said: They are a people from the People of the Scripture who were upon a law of the truth from what Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) had brought, believing in it and adhering to it. When God sent His Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), they attested to him, believed in him, and recognized that what he brought was the truth from God. So He praised them as you hear, His saying, the Almighty: "You see their eyes..."
[6677] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, he said: The Messenger of God (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent Ja‘far ibn Abi Talib, Ibn Mas‘ud, and ‘Uthman ibn Maz‘un among a group of his companions to the Negus. When they entered upon him, he said: "Do you recognize what has been revealed to you?" They said: "Yes." He said: "Recite." So they recited, and there were priests and monks among them, as well as the rest of the Christians. A group of them, whenever they recited a verse, their tears would flow because of the truth they recognized: "That is because among them are priests and monks and that they are not arrogant. And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth."
٦٦٧٣ - حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، ثنا هُذَيْلٌ الْهَمَذَانِيُّ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ مِنْهُمْ قِسِّيسِينَ وَرُهْبَانًا قَالَ: هُمْ أَصْحَابُ النَّجَاشِيِّ بَعَثَ مِنْ خِيَارِ أَصْحَابِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِثَلاثِينَ رَجُلا فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِمْ يس فَبَكَوْا وَقَالُوا نَعْرِفُ وَاللَّهِ فَنَزَلَتْ فِيهِمْ.
٦٦٧٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ مِنْهُمْ قِسِّيسِينَ وَرُهْبَانًا قَالَ: عُلَمَاؤُهُمْ وَفُقَهَاؤُهُمْ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
٦٦٧٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلَهُ: وَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ قَالَ: بَعَثَ النَّجَاشِيُّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اثْنَى عَشَرَ رَجُلًا سَبْعَةَ قسيسين وخمسة رهبانا، يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَيَسْأَلُونَهُ، فَلَمَّا لَقَوْهُ فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ إِلَيْهِ بَكَوْا وَأَسِفُوا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِمْ وَأَنَّهُمْ لا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ
٦٦٧٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلَهُ: وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ تَرَى أَعْيُنَهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ قَالَ: هُمْ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ كَانُوا عَلَى شَرِيعَةٍ مِنَ الْحَقِّ مِمَّا جَاءَ بِهِ عِيسَى عَلَيْهِ الصَّلاةُ وَالسَّلامُ، يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَيَنْتَهُونَ إِلَيْهِ، فَلَمَّا بعث الله نبيه محمد صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَدَّقُوا وَآمَنُوا بِهِ وَعَرَفُوا الَّذِي جَاءَ بِهِ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِنَ اللَّهِ فَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِمْ كَمَا تَسْمَعُونَ قَوْلَهُ تَعَالَى: تَرَى أَعْيُنَهُمْ
٦٦٧٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ وَعُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ إِلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ قَالَ: تَعْرِفُونَ مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ قَالُوا نَعَمْ: قَالَ: اقْرَءُوا فَقَرَءُوا وَهُنَالِكَ مِنْهُمْ قِسِّيسُينَ وَرُهْبَانٌ وَسَايِرُ النَّصَارَى، فَجَعَلَتْ طَائِفَةٌ كُلَّمَا قَرَءُوا آيَةً انْحَدَرَتْ دُمُوعُهُمْ مِمَّا عَرَفُوا مِنَ الْحَقِّ ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ مِنْهُمْ قِسِّيسِينَ وَرُهْبَانًا وَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ تَرَى أَعْيُنَهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوا مِنَ الْحَقِّ
