His saying: "That you may be successful"
[6764] Through the same chain from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah's saying: "That you may be successful," meaning: so that you may be successful.
His saying: "Successful"
[6765] Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, Abu Hajar al-Madini reported to us from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b al-Qurazi: "That you may be successful," he says: "That you may be successful tomorrow when you meet Me."
[6766] Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Amr Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "That you may be successful," meaning: "That you may be saved from that which Allah has warned you against regarding His punishment, and that you may attain what He has promised you in it of His reward."
His saying: "Indeed, Satan only wants to cause among you animosity and hatred"
[6767] Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi narrated to us, ‘Uthman ibn ‘Imran narrated to us from Shu‘bah from Simak ibn Harb, he said: I heard Mus‘ab ibn Sa‘d narrating from his father, he said: "A man from the Ansar made food for us, and we ate it and drank wine, and that was before wine was forbidden. We began to boast and became intoxicated, so we boasted. We said: 'We are better than you,' and the Ansar said: 'We are better than you.' Then a man from the Ansar took a camel jawbone and struck Sa‘d on his nose, causing a wound. So there was revealed: 'Indeed, intoxicants and gambling...' (the verse)."
[6768] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "Indeed, Satan only wants to cause among you animosity and hatred in wine and gambling," meaning: when the Ansari wounded the head of Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas.
His saying: "And avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer (the verse)"
[6769] Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us from Sufyan from Abu Ishaq from ‘Amr ibn Shurahbil, he said: ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "O Allah, clarify for us regarding wine." So there was revealed regarding it: 'They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people..."' He said: "O Allah, clarify for us regarding wine." Then there was revealed: 'Indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan...' until he reached: '...So will you not then desist?' ‘Umar said: 'We have desisted; it wastes wealth and destroys the intellect.'"
