Mas‘ud, he said: When it was revealed: "There is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed if they fear [Allah] and believe and do righteous deeds," the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "It was said to me: You are among them."

[6777] Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Hakam informed us, he read it, Ibn Wahb narrated to us from Ibn Lahi‘ah from ‘Aqil ibn Khalid from Ibn Shihab, he said: ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amir ibn Rabi‘ah informed me that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "Indeed Allah says: 'There is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed if they fear [Allah].'" He said: "If you fear [Allah], you abstain from what Allah has forbidden for you."

His saying: "Then [again] fear [Allah] and believe, then [again] fear [Allah] and do good; and Allah loves the doers of good"

[6778] Zayd ibn Isma‘il al-Sa’igh al-Baghdadi narrated to us, ‘Asim ibn ‘Ali narrated to us, Qays ibn al-Rabi‘ narrated to us from al-A‘mash from Ibrahim from ‘Alqamah, he said: Ibn Mas‘ud said regarding: "Then [again] fear [Allah] and believe, then [again] fear [Allah] and do good," the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "It was said to me: You are among them."

[6779] ‘Amr ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Awdi narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us from Sa‘d ibn Abi ‘Awf al-Thaqafi from Muhammad ibn Hatib, he said: ‘Uthman was mentioned in the presence of al-Husayn ibn ‘Ali, and he said: "This is the Commander of the Faithful. They feared [Allah]," then he recited until His saying: "and Allah loves the doers of good."

[6780] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Then [again] fear [Allah] and do good" after having committed offenses, and it is His saying: "So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists, then what is past is forgiven."

His saying: "Believe and do righteous deeds"

[6781] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, he said: I heard one of our sheikhs, who had heard knowledge, saying in the interpretation of this verse: "And do righteous deeds, there is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed" of wine before it was forbidden, "if they fear [Allah]" that they would return to drinking it, "and believe" in its prohibition in this verse, "then [again] fear [Allah] and believe" in His Messenger: they feared [committing] sins.
