from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people," he says: A foundation [qiwam] for what they say is general for their Qiblah; meaning: and a security, for they are secure therein.

His saying, the Exalted: "And the Sacred Month"

[6861] My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Walid ibn Burd al-Antaki narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ja‘far ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from his grandfather, regarding the saying of Allah: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people, and the Sacred Month," he said: A standing for the people is their veneration of it, and the Sacred Month is their veneration of it.

[6862] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad narrated to us, from Bukayr, from Muqatil, regarding His saying: "And the Sacred Month," for whoever traveled during it, he was secure.

[6863] Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying: "Allah has made the Ka‘bah, the Sacred House, a standing for the people, and the Sacred Month." He said: All people were kings in it, defending one another. He said: There were no kings among the Arabs to defend one another, so Allah made for them the House as a standing, whereby they defend one another, and the Sacred Month is likewise; Allah defends some of them from others by the Sacred Months.

His saying, the Exalted: "And the sacrificial animals"

[6864] I read to Muhammad, Muhammad narrated to us, Muhammad narrated to us, from Bukayr, from Muqatil, regarding His saying: "And the Sacred Month, and the sacrificial animals, and the garlands." Then he said: And the sacrificial animals; if it is driven to the House during the Sacred Month, it is secure.

His saying, the Exalted: "That is so that you may know that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth"

[6865] Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, he said: Ibn ‘Abbas said: Allah created the Preserved Tablet [al-Lawh al-Mahfuz] as a journey of a hundred years. Then He said to the Pen, before He created creation, while He was upon the Throne: "Write." The Pen said: "What shall I write?" He said: "Write [everything] concerning My creation until the Day the Hour is established." So the Pen ran with what is to be, in the knowledge of Allah, until the Day of Resurrection. That is the meaning of His saying, as He says to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: "That Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth."
