His saying, the Exalted: "And when I restrained the Children of Israel from you."
[7004] Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Muhammad ibn Abi Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to me, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "By the clear signs," meaning the miracles which He placed at his hands, such as bringing the dead to life, his creating from clay the likeness of a bird, then blowing into it, and it becoming a bird by the permission of Allah; his healing of illnesses; his informing them of many of the unseen matters, such as what they hoard in their houses; and what he brought to them from the Torah alongside the Gospel which Allah gave to him. Then He mentioned their disbelief in all of that.
His saying, the Exalted: "And when I inspired..."
[7005] Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us—in what he wrote to me—, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat informed us from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And when I inspired to the disciples," he says: I cast into their hearts.
His saying, the Exalted: "to the disciples"
[First Aspect]
[7006] Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu 'Uthman al-Nahdi, from al-Minhal ibn 'Amr, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: They were only called al-hawariyyun (the disciples) because they were cleaners (sayyadin) in the whiteness of their clothes. A similar narration was reported from Muslim al-Batin.
Second Aspect:
[7007] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, regarding the saying of the Exalted: "the disciples," he said: The chosen ones of the prophets.
Third Aspect:
[7008] Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, al-Walid ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "the disciples," he said: 'Isa, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by a people who were misguided, so he called them and they responded to him. He said: That is why he named them the disciples. He said: And in Nabataean, it is 'hawari', and in Arabic, it is 'al-mujawwar' (the neighbor/close companion).
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِذْ كَفَفْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْكَ
٧٠٠٤ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ قَالَ: قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بن أبي عِكْرِمَةَ أَوْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ أَيِ الآيَاتِ الَّتِي وَضَعَ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ مِنْ إِحْيَاءِ الْمَوْتَى وَخَلْقِهِ مِنَ الطِّينِ كَهَيْئَةِ الطَّيْرِ ثُمَّ يَنْفُخُ فِيهِ فَيَكُونُ طَيْرًا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ، وَإِبْرَاءُ الأَسْقَامِ وَإِخْبَارِهِ بِكَثِيرٍ مِنَ الْغُيُوبِ بِمَا يدخرون في بيوتهم ومارد عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ مَعَ الإِنْجِيلِ الَّذِي أَحْدَثَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ كُفْرَهُمْ بِذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِذْ أَوْحَيْتُ
٧٠٠٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عثمان ابن حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ، أَنْبَأَ أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلَهُ: وَإِذْ أَوْحَيْتُ إِلَى الْحَوَارِيِّينَ يَقُولُ: قَذَفْتُ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ
- وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَلْهَمْتُهُمْ.

٧٠٠٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ الْحَوَارِيِّينَ، قَالَ كَانُوا صَيَّادِينَ أِبِيَاضِ ثِيَابِهِمْ- وَرُوِيَ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.

٧٠٠٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ قَوْلَهُ تَعَالَى: الْحَوَارِيُّونَ قَالَ: أَصْفِيَاءُ الأَنْبِيَاءُ.
الْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٧٠٠٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ فِي قَوْلِهِ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ قَالَ: مَرَّ عِيسَى عَلَيْهِ الصَّلاةُ وَالسَّلامُ بِقَوْمٍ ضاليين فَدَعَاهُمْ فَأَجَابُوهُ قَالَ: فَلِذَلِكَ سَمَّاهُمُ الْحَوَارِيِّينَ قَالَ: وَبِالنَّبَطِيَّةَ هَوَارِي- وَبِالْعَرَبِيَّةَ الْمُجوَّرُ.
