7192 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi‘ narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma‘mar informed us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Lest they understand it. And in their ears is deafness," he said: They hear it with their ears, but they do not retain anything of it, like the beast that hears the call but does not know what is being said to it.
7193 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And in their ears is deafness," he said: Deafness.
His saying: "And if they see every sign, they do not believe in it, until when they come to you."
7194 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from ‘Atiyyah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "Until when they come to you, they argue with you," he said: They are the polytheists.
His saying: "They argue with you."
7195 - And by the same chain, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "They argue with you," he said: They are the polytheists; they argue with the Muslims regarding the slaughtered animal.
His saying: "Those who disbelieve say."
7196 - And by the same chain, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "Those who disbelieve say: 'This is not but legends of the former people,'" he said: They are the polytheists; they say: "As for what you have slaughtered and killed, you eat, but as for what Allah has killed, you do not eat, and you are following the command of Allah."
His saying: "This is not but legends of the former people."
7197 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "This is not but legends of the former people," meaning: The rhymed prose of the former people.
7198 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah: "Legends of the former people," meaning: The narratives of the former people and their falsehood.
His saying, the Almighty and Exalted: "And they forbid it and keep away from it."

7199 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki‘ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Habib ibn Abi
قَوْلُهُ: وَفِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا.
٧١٩٢ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ، أنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنا مَعْمَرٌ،، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أَنْ يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا، قَالَ: يَسْمَعُونَهُ بِآذَانِهِمْ، وَلا يَعُونَ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا، كَمَثَلِ الْبَهِيمَةِ الَّتِي تَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ، وَمَا تَدْرِي مَا يُقَالُ لَهَا.
٧١٩٣ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّي
ِّ قَوْلَهُ: وَفِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا قَالَ: صَمَمٌ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَإِنْ يَرَوْا كُلَّ آيَةٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُوا بِهَا حتى إذا جاؤك.
٧١٩٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَوْفِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي،، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ،، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلَهُ: حَتَّى إذا جاؤك يُجَادِلُونَكَ قال: هُمُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ.
قَوْلُهُ: يُجَادِلُونَكَ.
٧١٩٥ - وَبِهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ. قَوْلَهُ: يُجَادِلُونَكَ قَالَ: هُمُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يُجَادِلُونَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِي الذَّبِيحَةِ.
قَوْلُهُ: يَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا.
٧١٩٦ - وَبِهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَوْلَهُ: يَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كفروا إن هذا إلا أساطير الأَوَّلِينَ قَالَ: هُمُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَقُولُونَ: أَمَّا مَا ذَبَحْتُمْ وَقَتَلْتُمْ، فَتَأْكُلُونَ، وَأَمَّا مَا قَتَلَ اللَّهُ، فَلا تَأْكُلُونَ، وَأَنْتُمْ تَتَّبِعُونَ أَمْرَ اللَّهِ.
قَوْلُهُ: إِنْ هَذَا إِلا أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَّلِينَ.
