while he remains in his disobedience, it is only a gradual enticement (istidraj) from Him." Then he recited the saying of Allah: "So when they forgot that which they had been reminded of, We opened for them the doors of everything, until when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and then they are in despair."
7289 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Shibl, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding "until when they rejoiced in that which they were given," he said: The prosperity of the world and its ease.
7290 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal informed us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "until when they rejoiced in that which they were given," [meaning] from the provision.
7291 - My father narrated to us, 'Imran ibn Musa al-Tarsusi narrated to us, Fayd ibn Ishaq narrated to us, who said: Al-Fudayl ibn 'Iyad said regarding His saying: "So when they forgot that which they had been reminded of, We opened for them the doors of everything, until when they rejoiced in that which they were given" from the world, leaned toward it, and felt secure in it, "We seized them suddenly, and then they are in despair."
His saying: "We seized them."
7292 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "We seized them suddenly," he says: The punishment seized them suddenly.
7293 - My father narrated to us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, al-Fazari (Marwan ibn Mu'awiyah) narrated to us, a man from Banu 'Ijl (a Kufan) narrated to me, from al-Hasan, who said: "Whoever is given abundance and does not think that he is being deceived (makr), he has no discernment. And whoever is given little and does not think that he is being granted respite, he has no discernment." Then he recited: "So when they forgot that which they had been reminded of, We opened for them the doors of everything, until when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and then they are in despair." He said: And al-Hasan said: "They were deceived, by the Lord of the Ka'bah; they were given their desires, then they were seized."

7294 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "We seized them suddenly," he said: "The command of Allah came upon the people suddenly. And Allah never seized a people except at the time of their luxury, their might, and their blessing. So do not feel secure against Allah, for none feels secure against Allah except the people who are losers (al-fasiqun)."
ذَلِكَ مُقِيمٌ عَلَى مَعَاصِيهِ، فَإِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ مِنْهُ اسْتِدْرَاجٌ. ثُمَّ تَلا قَوْلَ اللَّهِ: فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْلِسُونَ.
٧٢٨٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ شِبْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا قَالَ: رَخَاءُ الدُّنْيَا وَيُسْرُهَا.
٧٢٩٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، أنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ: حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا مِنَ الرِّزْقِ.
٧٢٩١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى الطَّرَسُوسِيُّ، ثنا فَيْضُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ: وَقَالَ الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَرَكَنُوا إِلَيْهَا، وَاطْمَأَنُّوا بِهَا أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْلِسُونَ.
قَوْلُهُ: أَخَذْنَاهُمْ.
٧٢٩٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، قَوْلَهُ: أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بَغْتَةً، يَقُولُ: أَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ بَغْتَةً.
٧٢٩٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، ثنا الْفَزَارِيُّ مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، حدثني رجل من بين عِجْلٍ كُوَفِيٌّ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: مَنْ وُسِّعَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرَ أَنَّهُ يُمْكَرُ بِهِ فَلا رَأْيَ لَهُ، وَمَنْ قُتِّرَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرَ أَنَّهُ يُنْظَرُ لَهُ فَلا رَأْيَ لَهُ. ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْلِسُونَ. قَالَ: وَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ: مُكِرَ بِالْقَومِ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ أعطوا حاجتهم ثم أخذوا

٧٢٩٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ الطُّوسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ، ثنا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بَغْتَةً قَالَ: بَغَتَ الْقَوْمَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ، وَمَا أَخَذَ اللَّهُ قَوْمًا قَطُّ إِلا عِنْدَ سَلْوَتِهِمْ وَعِزَّتِهِمْ ونعمتهم، فلا تفتروا بِاللَّهِ، إِنَّهُ لا يفتر بِاللَّهِ إِلا الْقَوْمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ.
