The Second Aspect:
7328 - My father narrated to us, 'Imran ibn Musa al-Tarsusi narrated to us, Fayd ibn Ishaq al-Raqqi narrated to us, saying: al-Fudayl ibn 'Iyad said: He did not admonish all of His creation; He only admonished those who possess intellect, and so He said: "And warn with it those who fear that they will be gathered to their Lord."
His saying: "That they might become righteous."
7329 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad al-'Asqalani narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Safwan al-Qasim ibn Yazid ibn 'Awanah narrated to us, from Yahya Abu al-Nadr, Juwaybir narrated to us, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "That they might become righteous," he says: That they might protect themselves from the Fire through the five daily prayers.
7330 - 'Amr ibn Thawr al-Qaysari informed me in what he wrote to me, al-Firyabi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "That they might become righteous," meaning: That they might obey.
His saying, the Exalted: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening," the verse.
[The First Aspect]
7331 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Muhammad al-'Anqazi narrated to us, Asbat ibn Nasr narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Sa'd al-Azdi—who was the reciter of the Azd—from Abu al-Kanud, from Khabbab regarding His saying: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening," he said: Al-Aqra' ibn Habis al-Tamimi and 'Uyaynah ibn Hisn al-Fazari came and found the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with Suhayb, Bilal, 'Ammar, and Khabbab sitting among some of the weak believers. When they saw them surrounding the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, they looked down upon them.
They came to him and sat with him privately, saying: "We want you to designate a sitting place for us by which the Arabs may recognize our status, for the delegations of the Arabs come to you, and we feel ashamed that the Arabs see us with these slaves. So when we come to you, make them leave our presence, and when we are finished, you may sit with them if you wish." He said: "Very well." They said: "Then write a document for us regarding this." He said: So he called for a parchment and called 'Ali to write, while we were sitting in a corner. Then Jibril descended and said: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account, and not upon them is anything of your account, that you should drive them away and so become among the wrongdoers." So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, threw away the parchment and then called for us, and we came to him (1).
