Ahmad ibn Sinan al-Wasiti narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Sufyan (1) narrated to us, from al-Miqdam ibn Shurayh, from his father, from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas regarding: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening," he said: It was revealed concerning six people, myself and Ibn Mas'ud among them, so it was revealed that I should bring these people near.
The Second Aspect:
7332 - My father narrated to us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, he said: There were men who would race to the sitting place of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, among them Bilal, Suhayb, and Salman. He said: Then the nobles and leaders of his people would come, and these men had already taken the place, so they would sit to the side. They said: Suhayb is a Roman, Salman is a Persian, and Bilal is an Abyssinian; they sit by him while we come and sit to the side. Until they mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: We are the masters of your people and their nobles, so if only you would bring us near to you when we come. He said: He intended to do so, so Allah the Exalted revealed: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His countenance," meaning: Salman and his companions.
His saying: "Those who call upon their Lord."
7333 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening," meaning: they worship their Lord.
7334 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mughirah, from Ibrahim regarding: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening," he said: They are the people of Dhikr (remembrance).
7335 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from Abu Ja'far, he said: He used to sit with them teaching them the Quran.
His saying: "In the morning."
7336 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning," he said: The obligatory prayer, the morning (Subh).
It is also narrated from al-Dahhak similar to that.
It is also narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Mujahid, and al-Nakha'i that they said: It refers to the prescribed prayer.
