His saying, Exalted is He: 'And We will turn their hearts and their eyes.'
7771 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle narrated to me, from his father, from 'Atiyyah, from Ibn 'Abbas: regarding His saying: 'And We will turn their hearts and their eyes as they did not believe in it the first time,' he said: When the polytheists denied what Allah had sent down, their hearts did not remain firm on anything and were turned away from every matter.
7772 - My father narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, Ibn Kathir informed me, from Mujahid, that he said: 'And We will turn their hearts'—We will intervene between them and faith, if a sign were to come to them, just as We intervened between them and it the first time.
7773 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: 'And We will turn their hearts and their eyes as they did not believe in it the first time,' he said: We prevent him from that, just as We did to them the first time. And he recited: 'As they did not believe in it the first time.'
7774 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, from Shu'ayb ibn Ruzayq, from 'Ata' al-Khurasani, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His saying: 'And We will turn their hearts and their eyes as they did not believe in it the first time,' 'Ikrimah said: Muhammad came to them with clear proofs, so they did not believe in him, thus We turned their eyes and their hearts. And even if every sign like that came to them, they would not believe, unless Allah wills.
7775 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: regarding His saying: 'As they did not believe in it the first time,' then he said: If they were returned to the world, it would be intervened between them and guidance, just as We intervened between them and it the first time while they were in the world.
His saying: 'And We will leave them.'
7776 - Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Ansari narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik: regarding His saying: 'And We will leave them,' meaning: We will forsake them.
His saying: 'In their transgression.'
7777 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: regarding His saying: 'In their transgression,' meaning: in their disbelief.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ
٧٧٧١ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَوْفِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي عَمِّي عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: قَوْلَهُ: وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أَوَّلَ مرة، قَالَ: لَمَّا جَحَدَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ، لَمْ تَثْبُتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ وَرُدَّتْ عَنْ كُلِّ أَمْرٍ.
٧٧٧٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى أنا هِشَامٌ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ كَثِيرٍ عَنِ مُجَاهِدٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ نَحُولُ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الإِيمَانِ لَوْ جَاءَتْهُمْ آيَةٌ كَمَا حُلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ.
٧٧٧٣ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ، قَالَ: نَمْنَعُهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ كَمَا فَعَلْنَا بِهِمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ. وَقَرَأَ: كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ.
٧٧٧٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ثنا الْوَلِيدُ عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ رُزَيْقٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ الخرساني عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أول مرة قَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ: جَاءَهُمْ مُحَمَّدٌ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ، فَلَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ، فَقَلَّبْنَا أَبْصَارَهُمْ وَأَفْئِدَتَهُمْ، وَلَوْ جَاءَتْهُمْ كُلُّ آيَةٍ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا، إِلا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهِ.
٧٧٧٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: قَوْلَهُ: كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ، ثُمّ قَالَ: لَوْ رُدُّوا إِلَى الدُّنْيَا لَحِيلَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْهُدَى كَمَا حِلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا.
قَوْلُهُ: وَنَذَرُهُمْ
٧٧٧٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَنْصَارِيُّ ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ: قَوْلُهُ: ونذرهم يعني نَتَخَلَّى عَنْهُمْ.
قَوْلُهُ: فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ
٧٧٧٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: قَوْلَهُ: فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ، فِي كفرهم.
