7831 - al-Hasan ibn 'Arafah narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Mu'awiyah ibn Salih, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from his father, from al-Nawwas ibn Sam'an, who said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about sin, and he said: "Sin is what wavers in your chest, and you hate for people to find out about it."
His saying: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned."
The first interpretation:
7832 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Imran ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: The Jews disputed with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: We eat what we have killed, and we do not eat what Allah has killed. So Allah the Almighty revealed: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, and indeed it is a sin."
7833 - My father narrated to us, Yahya ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Jarir reported to us, from 'Ata', from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned," he said: It is carrion (al-maytah).
7834 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, from Ibn Lahi'ah, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned," meaning: carrion.
7835 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Abu Malik, regarding a man who slaughters and forgets to mention the name of Allah; he said: There is no harm in it. I said: Then where is His saying: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned"? He said: You have already slaughtered with your religion.
7836 - My father narrated to us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman narrated to us, Yahya—meaning Ibn Abi Za'idah—narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata', regarding: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned," he said: He is forbidding the sacrifices that Quraysh used to offer to idols, and he is forbidding the sacrifices of the Magians.
The second interpretation:
7837 - It was read to al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb reported to us, al-Nu'man ibn al-Mundhir informed me, from Makhul, who said: Allah the Almighty revealed in the Quran: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned." Then the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, abrogated it and showed mercy to the Muslims, and said:

٧٨٣١ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوَّاسِ بْنِ سَمْعَانَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الإِثْمِ، فَقَالَ: الإِثْمُ مَا حَاكَ فِي صَدْرِكَ وَكَرِهْتَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ

٧٨٣٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ: خَاصَمَتِ الْيَهُودُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا: نَأْكُلُ مِمَّا قَتَلْنَا، وَلا نَأْكُلُ مِمَّا قَتَلَ اللَّهُ. فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَفِسْقٌ «١» .
٧٨٣٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ أَنْبَأَ جَرِيرٌ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: وَلا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ: هِيَ الْمَيْتَةُ.
٧٨٣٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءٌ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ: قَوْلَهُ: وَلا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ يَعْنِي الْمَيْتَةَ.
٧٨٣٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَذْبَحُ وَيَنْسَى أَنْ يُسَمِّيَ، قَالَ: لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ. قُلْتُ: فَأَيْنَ قَوْلُهُ: وَلا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا ذَبَحْتَ بِدِينِكَ.
٧٨٣٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ثنا يَحْيَى هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَلا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ: يَنْهَى عَنْ ذَبَائِحَ كَانَتْ تَذْبَحُهَا قُرَيْشٌ عَلَى الأَوْثَانِ وَيَنْهَى عَنْ ذَبَائِحِ الْمَجُوسِ «٢» .
الْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٧٨٣٧ - قُرِئَ عَلَى الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدٍ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ قَالَ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فِي الْقُرْآنِ: وَلا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ نَسَخَهَا الرَّبُّ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَرَحِمَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فقال:
