His saying, the Almighty: "What would Allah do with your punishment if you are grateful and believe? And ever is Allah Appreciative and Knowing."

[6166] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "What would Allah do with your punishment if you are grateful and believe? And ever is Allah Appreciative and Knowing," [he said]: "Indeed, Allah does not punish one who is grateful nor one who believes."

His saying, the Almighty: "Allah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged."

[6167] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Allah does not like the public mention of evil," [he said]: "Allah, the Exalted, does not like that anyone should invoke evil upon anyone else."

[6168] Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq reported, al-Muthanna ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Allah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged," he said: "A man was a guest of another man, but [the host] did not fulfill the right of his hospitality. When he left, he told the people, saying: 'I was a guest of so-and-so, and he did not fulfill the right of my hospitality.'" He said: "That is the public mention of evil, except for the one who has been wronged when the other did not fulfill his right of hospitality toward him."

His saying, the Almighty: "Except by one who has been wronged."

[6169] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Except by one who has been wronged," [he said]: "Unless he is oppressed, then it is permitted for him to invoke [evil] against the one who has wronged him, and that is the saying of Allah the Almighty: 'Except by one who has been wronged. And if you are patient, it is better for you.'"

[6170] Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by reading, and Sulayman ibn Dawud narrated to us, both said: Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Ibrahim ibn Abi Bakr, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Allah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged," he said: "It is concerning hospitality; a man comes to a people while he is a traveler, and they do not offer him hospitality, so it is permitted for him to speak about them and let them hear it." The phrasing is Yunus's.
