[His saying, the Almighty: "Before his death."]
[The First Aspect]
[6254] Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman—meaning Ibn Mahdi—narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Ibn Husayn, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him before his death," he said: "Before the death of 'Isa, peace be upon him."
And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah, Mujahid, al-Hasan, and Qatadah similar to that.
[The Second Aspect]
[6255] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "But that he will surely believe in him before his death," he said: "Before the death of the Jew." It was narrated from Muhammad ibn Sirin and al-Dahhak similar to that.
His saying, the Almighty: "And on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them."
[6256] My father narrated to me, 'Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn Nufayl narrated to us, 'Afif ibn Salim al-Musalli narrated to us, from al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl, he said: Al-Hajjaj sent to 'Ikrimah to ask him about the Day of Resurrection: Is it from this world or from the Hereafter? He replied: "The beginning of that day is from this world and the end of it is from the Hereafter."
[6257] My father narrated to me, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' informed us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them," he says: "On the Day of Resurrection, that he has conveyed the messages of his Lord and admitted to servitude on his own behalf."
His saying, the Almighty: "So for injustice on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful to them [certain] good things which had been lawful to them."
[6258] Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr, he said: Ibn 'Abbas read: "Good things [that] had been lawful to them."
[6259] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "So for injustice on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful to them [certain] good things which had been lawful to them," that Allah the Almighty had forbidden the people of the Torah, when they professed it, from consuming usury, and forbade them from defrauding people in their affairs, and forbade them from consuming people's wealth unjustly. So they consumed usury and consumed people's wealth unjustly, and they barred [others] from the religion of Allah and from belief in Muhammad. When they did that, Allah forbade them some of what He had made lawful for them in the Torah as a punishment for them, because they made lawful what He had forbidden them. So He forbade them every animal with an undivided hoof—the camel and the ostrich and similar beasts—and from cattle and sheep, their fats, except what their backs carry of fat and the intestines."
