His saying, the Almighty: "That they may humble themselves [la'allahum yaddarra'un]"

8747 - Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Khatmi told us, Harun ibn Hatim told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad told us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "That they may [la'allahum]" meaning: in order that.

His saying, the Almighty: "Then We replaced the evil with the good"

8748 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Then We replaced the evil with the good," he says: instead of hardship, ease.

The second view:

8749 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "The place of the evil [al-sayyi'ah] with the good [al-hasanah]" he said: The evil is the bad [al-sharr].

8750 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah: "Then We replaced the evil with the good" he says: We replaced what they disliked with what they liked in the worldly life.

8751 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "Then We replaced the evil with the good," he said: And the good is ease, justice, and children.

8752 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah, he said: They were replaced instead of the evil—which is distress and affliction—with the good, which is wellness.

His saying: "Until they multiplied [hatta 'afaw]"

8753 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Until they multiplied [hatta 'afaw]" meaning: they became numerous.

8754 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Until they multiplied," he says: until they became numerous and their wealth became numerous.
