His saying, the Almighty: "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]."

8818 - Abu Zur'ah told us, 'Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, who said: 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas said: When they said: "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims," he said: They were magicians at the beginning of the day and martyrs at the end of the day.

His saying, the Almighty: "...and forsake you and your gods."

[The first interpretation]

8819 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' told us, Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah told us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, from Muhammad ibn Hasan—thus he said: Indeed Ibn 'Abbas used to recite: "Wa yadharuka wa alihataka" [And he forsakes you and your gods]. He said: Pharaoh was being worshipped, but he did not worship [anyone].

8820 - My father told us, Musa ibn Isma'il told us, Jarir ibn Hazim told us, from al-Zubayr ibn al-Khirrit, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "...and forsake you and your gods," he said: "Your worship."

8821 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "...and forsake you and your gods," he said: "He abandons your worship."

The second interpretation:

8822 - Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani told us, Hafs ibn 'Umar informed us, al-Hakam ibn Aban told us, from 'Ikrimah regarding "...and forsake you and your gods," he said: They do not mean by it the idols; they only mean his glorification.

The third interpretation:

8823 - Abu Zur'ah mentioned it, Nasr ibn 'Ali told us, al-Mu'tamir informed us, from his father, who said: I recited to Bakr ibn 'Abd Allah "Wa yadharuka wa alihataka." Bakr said: "Do you know this in Arabic?" I said: "Yes." Then al-Hasan came, and Bakr asked me to recite it to him, so I recited it as such. Al-Hasan said: "Wa yadharuka wa alihataka [And he forsakes you and your gods]." I said to al-Hasan: "Did he used to worship anything?" He said: "Yes, by Allah, he indeed used to worship." Mu'tamir said: My father said: It reached me that he used to place something around his neck that he would worship. He said: And it also reached me from Ibn 'Abbas that he said: "He used to worship cows."

8824 - My father told us: Abu Husayn ibn Yahya ibn Salman told me, Marwan told us, Harun told us, from Nusayr ibn Yazid, from al-Hasan: He mentioned the saying of Allah: "...and forsake you and your gods," and said: Pharaoh had gods that he worshipped in secret.
