8834 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "before you came to us," meaning: before Allah sent you.

The second interpretation:

8835 - Abu Zur'ah told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Sa'd ibn Ibrahim told us, al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Ashyab told us, Hammad told us, from Abu Sinan, from Wahb ibn Munabbih regarding His saying: "We were harmed before you came to us," he said: The Children of Israel said to Moses: Pharaoh used to burden us with [making] bricks before you came to us.

His saying, the Almighty: "and [even] after you came to us."

8836 - Hajjaj told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, meaning His saying: "and [even] after you came to us," he said: After Allah sent you.

The second interpretation:

8837 - My father told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Sa'd ibn Ibrahim told us, al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Ashyab told us, Hammad told us, from Abu Sinan, from Wahb ibn Munabbih regarding this verse: "and [even] after you came to us," he said: The Children of Israel said to Moses: Pharaoh used to burden us with [making] bricks before you came to us, and when you came, we were burdened with bricks along with straw as well. Moses said: O Lord, destroy Pharaoh; how long will you leave him? Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed to him: They have not yet committed the sin for which I will destroy them.

His saying, the Almighty: "He said: It may be that your Lord will destroy [your enemy]."

8838 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki told us from his book, my father told me, from his father, my father told us, from 'Ali ibn 'Ali, the judge of Rayy, from 'Umar ibn Qays, from Jabir, from Tamim ibn Judlam, who said: I heard 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "It is through us, the Ahl al-Bayt (family of the Prophet), that this matter began and it will conclude; it is inevitable that the dynasty of Banu Hashim will come to pass, so look at which of the Banu Hashim you are with." And regarding what it was revealed: "It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors in the land, then He will see how you act."
