His saying, the Almighty: "My punishment—I afflict with it whom I will."
9044 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi reported to us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "My punishment—I afflict with it whom I will," [he said]: For the punishment which Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has mentioned.
His saying, the Almighty: "And My mercy."
9045 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' told us, Sufyan told us, from 'Amr—meaning Ibn Dinar—from 'Ata', he said: Indeed, Allah created His mercy as one hundred mercies. He distributed one mercy among His creation and stored ninety-nine for Himself. From that one mercy, the children of Adam show compassion to one another, and the beasts show compassion to one another, until the bird shows compassion toward its chicks. Then, when the Day of Resurrection comes, He will gather that mercy to the ninety-nine, and His mercy will have encompassed all things.
9046 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi reported to us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying: "And My mercy"—he said: It is repentance. "So I will ordain it for those who fear Me"—he said: So His mercy is the repentance that Moses asked for.
His saying, the Almighty: "Encompasses all things."
9047 - Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani reported to us in what he wrote to me, 'Abd al-Razzaq (1) informed us, from Ma'mar, from al-Hasan and Qatadah, meaning His saying: "Encompasses all things," he said: It encompasses in this world the righteous and the wicked, and it is on the Day of Resurrection for those who fear Him specifically.
9048 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, from al-Walid, he said: I asked Sadaqah ibn Yazid al-Khurasani about the saying of Allah: "And My mercy encompasses all things." He said: al-Hasan ibn Dhakwan told me, from al-Hasan al-Basri, he said: Both the Muslim and the disbeliever shared in this verse in this world; then, when the Day of Resurrection comes, it will be for the God-fearing specifically.
9049 - My father told us, Salamah ibn Shabib told us, Ibrahim ibn Khalid told us, from 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Muharrab, he said: We were discussing in the presence of Simak ibn al-Fadl: Which thing is the greatest? They mentioned the heavens and the earth, and he was silent. They said: "What do you say, O Abu al-Fadl?" He said: "There is nothing greater than His mercy." Allah the Almighty said: "And My mercy encompasses all things."
