the heavens and the earth, and he was silent. They said: "What do you say, O Abu al-Fadl?" He said: "There is nothing greater than His mercy." Allah the Almighty said: "And My mercy encompasses all things."
9050 - My father told us, Ibn Abi 'Umar told us, Sufyan told us, from Abu Bakr al-Hudhali, he said: When [the verse] "And My mercy encompasses all things" was revealed, Iblis said: "O Lord, I am also among those things [encompassed]." So, [the verse] was revealed: "So I will ordain it for those who fear Me, and give the Zakah, and those who believe in Our verses," and thus Allah removed it from Iblis.
9051 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah, regarding his saying: "And My mercy encompasses all things," [he said]: Some people heard it and said: "We are part of that 'thing'." So Allah revealed: "So I will ordain it for those who fear Me, and give the Zakah."
His saying, the Almighty: "So I will ordain it."
9052 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Blessed and Exalted is He, He wrote in the Tablets the mention of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and mentioned his nation, and what He stored for them with Him, and what He made easy for them in their religion, and what He expanded for them in what He permitted for them. [He said]: "My punishment—I afflict with it whom I will, and My mercy encompasses all things. So I will ordain it for those who fear Me, and give the Zakah, and those who believe in Our verses. Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written down with them in the Torah and the Gospel."
9053 - Abu Harun al-Khazzaz told us, 'Abd Allah ibn al-Jahm told us, 'Amr ibn Abi Qays told us, Layth told us, from Shahr, from Nawf, he said: When Moses chose his people, seventy men for Our appointed time, Allah said: "O Moses, I am teaching your people the Torah from their hearts, both their men and their women, and I will place tranquility in their hearts, and I will make the earth places of prostration and purification for them." He said: So Moses presented that to his people, and they said: "We will not learn the Torah except by looking [at it], nor will we pray except in the synagogues, and the tranquility will not be except in the Ark." Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: "So I will ordain it for those who fear Me" up to His saying: "and the Gospel."

9054 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti told us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and Yazid ibn Harun told us.
السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَهُوَ سَاكِتٌ، فَقَالُوا: مَا تَقُولُ يَا أَبَا الْفَضْلِ، فَقَالَ: مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ
٩٠٥٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْهُذَلِيِّ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ قَالَ إِبْلِيسُ: يَا رَبِّ وَأَنَا مِنَ الشَّيْءِ فَنَزَلَتْ فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا لِلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِآيَاتِنَا يُؤْمِنُونَ فَنَزَعَهَا اللَّهُ مِنْ إِبْلِيسَ.
٩٠٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا صَفْوَانُ ثنا الْوَلِيدُ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ يَقُولُ قَوْلُهُ: وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ سَمِعَهَا نَاسٌ فَقَالُوا: إِنَّا مِنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّيْءِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ:
فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا لِلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا
٩٠٥٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: وَكَانَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى كَتَبَ فِي الأَلْوَاحِ ذِكْرِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَذَكَرَ أُمَّتَهُ، وَمَا ذَخَرَ لَهُمْ عِنْدَهُ، وَمَا يَسَّرَ عَلَيْهِمْ فِي دِينِهِمْ، وَمَا وَسَّعَ عَلَيْهِمْ فِيمَا أَحَلَّ لَهُمْ: قَالَ عَذَابِي أُصِيبُ بِهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا لِلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِآيَاتِنَا يُؤْمِنُونَ. الَّذِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ الرَّسُولَ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ الَّذِي يَجِدُونَهُ مَكْتُوبًا عِنْدَهُمْ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ والإنجيل
٩٠٥٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَارُونَ الْخَزَّازُ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْجَهْمِ ثنا عَمْرٌو ابْنُ أَبِي قَيْسٍ ثنا لَيْثٌ عَنْ شَهْرٍ عَنْ نَوْفٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا اخْتَارَ مُوسَى قَوْمَهُ سَبْعِينَ رَجُلاً لِمِيقَاتِنَا قَالَ اللَّهُ:
يَا مُوسَى إِنِّي مُعَلِّمُ قَوْمَكَ التَّوْرَاةَ عَنْ ظَهْرِ قُلُوبِهِمْ رَجُلَهُمْ وَامْرَأَتَهُمْ، وَأَجْعَلُ السَّكِينَةَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ، وَأَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ الأَرْضَ مَسَاجِدَ وَطَهُورًا قَالَ: فَعَرَضَ ذَلِكَ مُوسَى عَلَى قَوْمِهِ فَقَالُوا: لَا نَتَعَلَّمُ التَّوْرَاةَ إِلا نَظَرًا، وَلا نُصَلِّي إِلا فِي الْكَنَائِسِ وَلا تَكُونُ السَّكِينَةُ إِلا فِي التَّابُوتِ، قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا للذين يتقون إلى قوله: والإنجيل
٩٠٥٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ
