8499 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar told us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "They take the goods of this lower life," [meaning] of the unlawful.

8500 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd saying regarding the saying of Allah: "They take the goods of this lower life," he said: The Book which is in their hands.

His saying, the Almighty: "And they say: It will be forgiven us"

8501 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding his saying: "The goods of this lower life," [means] whatever presents itself to them during the day of worldly things, whether lawful or unlawful, they desire it and take it, and they hope for forgiveness.

8502 - al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid al-Bayruti informed us, by way of reading to him, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur informed me, 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' informed me, from his father 'Ata' regarding His saying: "They take the goods of this lower life and say: It will be forgiven us," [meaning] they take what presents itself to them of worldly life and say: We seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him.

His saying, the Almighty: "And if a similar good comes to them, they take it"

8503 - Usayd ibn 'Asim told us, al-Husayn ibn Hafs told us, Sufyan told us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, and from Sa'id ibn Jubayr [regarding] "And if a similar good comes to them, they take it," they both said: [These are] the sins; they say: It will be forgiven us.

8504 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "And if a similar good comes to them, they take it," he said: If they find on the next day the like of it, they take it; meaning whatever presents itself to them during the day of worldly things, whether lawful or unlawful, they desire it and take it.

His saying, the Almighty: "Has not the covenant of the Book been taken from them"

8505 - My father told us, Sa'id ibn Sulayman al-Nashiti told us, Abu al-Ashhab told us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "Has not the covenant of the Book been taken from them, that they should not say about Allah except the truth," he said: It is for the people of faith among them.
