[The fourth aspect]
Those who interpreted the verse to mean that the nafal (additional spoil) is what remains after the fifth is taken from it:
8760 - My father narrated to us, he said: 'Awn ibn al-Hakam ibn Sinan al-Bahili, Muhammad ibn Abi Nu'aym al-Wasiti, and 'Ubayd ibn Muhammad ibn Bahr al-'Abdi narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Kulayb, Abu al-Juwayriyah narrated to me, from a man among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) from the tribe of Banu Sulaym called Ma'n ibn Yazid, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "There is no nafal except after the fifth." Those who interpreted the verse to mean that the nafal is from the fifth:
8761 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us that Malik narrated to him, from Abu al-Zinad, from Ibn al-Musayyib, that he said: The people used to be given the nafal from the fifth.
8762 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi' told us, Ibn al-Mubarak told us, from Ma'mar, from Ayyub, from Ibn Sirin, that Anas ibn Malik was with 'Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakrah on a military expedition he undertook, and they seized captives. 'Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakrah wanted to give Anas (a share) from the captives before dividing them. Anas said: No, but divide them, then give me from the fifth.
[The sixth aspect]
Those who interpreted the verse to mean that the nafal is from the entire spoils before it is divided into fifths:
8763 - Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah ibn 'Ammar, from Iyas ibn Salamah ibn al-Akwa', from his father, who said: We fought Hawazin with Abu Bakr during the era of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He granted me as a nafal a slave girl from Banu Fazarah, who was the most beautiful of the Arabs, and she was wearing her old garment. I did not uncover any of her clothing until I came to Medina. The Prophet (peace be upon him) met me in the marketplace and said: "May your father be ransomed for you, give her to me." So I gave her to him, and he sent her to ransom some prisoners of the Muslims who were in Mecca. (2)
[The seventh aspect]
Those who interpreted the verse to mean that the nafal is before the two armies meet:
8764 - My father narrated to us, al-Fadl ibn Dukayn narrated to me, Sharik told us, from Jabir, from al-Qasim ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud, from his father, from 'Abd Allah, who said: The nafal is that which is (taken) before the two armies meet, or he said: Before the two lines meet. When the two lines meet, or he said: The two armies, then it is a spoil.

مَنْ فَسَّرَ الآيَةَ بِأَنَّ النَّفَلَ يَكُونُ مَا يَخْرُجُ الْخُمْسُ مِنْهُ:
٨٧٦٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا عَوْنُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ وَعُبَيْدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بَحْرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْجُوَيْرِيَةِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ: مَعْنُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- يَقُولُ: لَا نَفَلَ إلا بعد الخمس «١» .

٨٧٦١ - أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى قِرَاءَةً أَنْبَأَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَنَّ مَالِكًا حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: كَانَ النَّاسُ يُعْطَونَ النَّفَلَ مِنَ الْخُمْسِ.
٨٧٦٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ثنا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ كَانَ مَعَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ فِي غَزَاةٍ غَزَاهَا فَأَصَابُوا سَبْيًا، وَأَرَادَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَ أَنَسًا مِنَ السَّبْي قَبْلَ أَنْ يُقَسِّمَ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ:
لَا، ولكن اقسم ثم اعطني من الخمس.

مَنْ فَسَّرَ الآيَةَ عَلَى أَنَّ النَّفَلَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْغَنِيمَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُخَمَّسَ:
٨٧٦٣ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْأَحْمَسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَيَاسَ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكْوَعِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: غَزَوْنَا مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ هَوَازِنَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- فَنَفَّلَنِي جَارِيَةً مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ أَجْمَلَ الْعَرَبِ، عَلَيْهَا قَشْعٌ لَهَا، فَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا عَنْ ثَوْبٍ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ، فَلَقِيَنِي النَّبِيُّ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- فِي السُّوقِ، فَقَالَ: لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ هَبْهَا لِي، فَوَهَبْتُهَا لَهُ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا فَفَادَى بِهَا أُسَارَى مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَانُوا بمكة «٢» .
مَنْ فَسَّرَ الآيَةَ عَلَى أَنَّ النَّفَلَ قَبْلَ الْتِقَاءِ الزَّحْفَانِ:
٨٧٦٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ ثنا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: النفل ما لم يلتقي
