a [type of] bow called 'kabda'a'. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—shot at the fortress, and the arrow flew until it killed Ibn Abi al-Huqayq in his bed. So Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed: 'And you threw not when you threw, but it was Allah who threw.' Abu al-Mughirah said: The 'kabda'a' is the balanced, good one.

His saying, the Almighty: 'And that He might test the believers with a good test from Him'

8914 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: And Muhammad ibn al-Zubayr narrated to me, from 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr: 'And that He might test the believers with a good test from Him,' i.e., so that the believers might acknowledge His favor upon them in causing them to prevail over their enemies, despite their enemies' large numbers and their own small numbers, so that they might acknowledge His right through that and thank Him for His favor.

His saying, the Almighty: 'Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing'

8915 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, Ibn Ishaq narrated to us: 'All-Knowing,' i.e., Knowing of what they conceal.
