9060 - Muhammad ibn al-Abbas narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn Amr narrated to us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, he said: Yahya ibn Abbad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to me, from his father, Abbad: "And those who have disbelieved will be gathered to Hell," meaning the group who walked to Abu Sufyan and to those who had wealth among Quraysh in that caravan, and asked them to strengthen them with it for the war against the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, so they did so.
His saying, the Almighty: "So that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good."

9061 - Ahmad ibn Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "So that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good," he says: He distinguishes the believer from the disbeliever.
The second interpretation:
9062 - Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Mihran narrated to us, from Ya'qub, from Hafs ibn Humayd, from Shimr ibn Atiyah: "So that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good," he said: He distinguishes what was for Allah of righteous deeds from the worldly life, then the worldly life is taken in its entirety and thrown into Hell.
His saying, the Almighty: "Then heap it all together and put it into Hell."
9063 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed us, Ibn Zayd informed us regarding the word of Allah: "Then heap it all together," he said: Then He gathers it all together and puts it into Hell.
His saying, the Almighty: "Those are the losers."
9064 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf informed me, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "Those are the losers," he said: In the Hereafter.
9065 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Those are the losers in the Hereafter," he says: They are the people of the Fire.
