al-Mu'addib told us, Shayban told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And do not approach this tree, so you would be among the wrongdoers," he said: Allah tested Adam just as He tested the angels before him, and everything that was created was tested. Allah did not leave any of His creation without testing it through obedience, and the trial of Adam continued until he fell into what he was forbidden from.
His saying, the Almighty: "Then Satan whispered to them"
8287 - My father told us, Khalid ibn Khidash told us, Hammad ibn Zayd told us, from al-Zubayr ibn Khirrit, from ‘Ikrimah, who said: He was only called Satan (al-shaytan) because he became rebellious (tashaytana).
His saying, the Almighty: "To reveal to them that which was hidden from them of their shame"
8288 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "To reveal to them that which was hidden from them of their shame" by stripping them of their garments. He had known that they had shame (private parts) because of what he used to read from the books of the angels, while Adam did not know that, and their garment was their fingernails.
His saying, the Almighty: "And said, 'Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree'"
8289 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj told us, ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Musa told us, from Isra’il, from al-Suddi, from someone who narrated to him from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: Iblis came to them and said: "Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree." They did not believe him until he entered into the belly of the snake and spoke to them.
His saying, the Almighty: "Unless you become angels"
8290 - And by this chain from Ibn ‘Abbas: "Unless you become angels or become of the immortals." He said: Meaning two angels, that you become like Him, meaning: like Allah the Almighty.
8291 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, al-Muqaddami told us, Abu Ma‘shar al-Bara’ told us, Abu Raja’ told us, from al-Hasan: "Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree except that you might become angels or become of the immortals." He said: He mentioned the superiority of the angels; they were favored by their forms, favored by their wings, and favored by honor.
8292 - My father told us, Abu Ma‘mar al-Minqari told us, ‘Abd al-Warith told us, from Humayd, who said: Mujahid used to recite it as: "Unless you become angels" (malakayn), with a fat-hah on the lam, meaning from the angels. Similar was narrated from Qatadah, al-A‘mash, Talhah ibn Musarrif, and al-A‘raj.
8293 - My father told us, Ibn Nufayl told us, ‘Attab told us, from Khusayf, from Ibn Munabbih, who said:
