that there is a tree in Paradise with two branches; the angels circumambulate one of them, and the other is what He says: "Your Lord did not forbid you from this tree except that you might become angels," meaning from the angels who circumambulate that branch.

His saying, the Almighty: "Or become of the immortals"

8294 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "Or become of the immortals," meaning: you will never die. Similar was narrated from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b al-Qurazi and Wahb ibn Munabbih.

His saying, the Almighty: "And he swore to them"

8295 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: His saying, "And he swore to them," he said: He swore to them by Allah, "Indeed, I am for you both a sincere advisor." Similar was narrated from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b.

8296 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn al-Sabbah al-Qattan told us, ‘Abd al-Wahhab informed us, Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah informed us, from Qatadah, from Mutarrif, regarding His saying: "And he swore to them, 'Indeed, I am for you both a sincere advisor'"—he said to them: "I was created before you, and I am more knowledgeable than you, so follow me, and I will guide you." Thus, the believer is deceived by Allah.

Qatadah said: Some of the people of knowledge used to say: Whoever deceives us by Allah, we are deceived.

His saying, the Almighty: "So he brought them down by deception"

8297 - It was mentioned from Muhammad ibn Hatim al-Mu‘addib, ‘Ali ibn Thabit told us, from Musa ibn ‘Ubaydah, from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b: "So he brought them down by deception," he said: He misled them with deception.

His saying, the Almighty: "So when they tasted the tree"

8298 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: Adam refused to eat from it, so Hawwa' (Eve) stepped forward and ate, then she said: "O Adam, eat, for I have already eaten, and you did not wait for me." So when Adam ate, their private parts became visible to them.

His saying, the Almighty: "Their private parts became visible to them"

8299 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ashkab told us, ‘Ali ibn ‘Asim told us, Sa‘id ibn Abi
