His saying, Exalted is He: "Except for those with whom you made a treaty at the Sacred Mosque"

10095 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Except for those with whom you made a treaty at the Sacred Mosque," he means: The people of Makkah.

10096 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "Except for those with whom you made a treaty at the Sacred Mosque. So as long as they are upright toward you, be upright toward them," he said: These are the Quraysh.

10097 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us from Ma'mar from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Except for those with whom you made a treaty at the Sacred Mosque. So as long as they are upright toward you, be upright toward them," he said: It was the day of Hudaybiyyah. He said: So they did not remain upright, and they broke their treaty; they aided Banu Bakr, the allies of the Quraysh, against Khuza'ah, the allies of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

His saying, Exalted is He: "So as long as they are upright toward you"

10098 - I read to Muhammad, Muhammad narrated to us, Muhammad narrated to us from Bukayr from Muqatil regarding His saying: "So as long as they are upright toward you," he says: As long as they fulfill the treaty for you.

His saying, Exalted is He: "Be upright toward them"

10099 - And through the same chain from Muqatil regarding His saying: "Be upright toward them," he said: Fulfill for them.

His saying, Exalted is He: "How, even if they gain dominance over you"

10000 - (*) Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us—in what he wrote to me—, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "How, even if they gain dominance over you, they would not observe regarding you any pact or obligation?" He says: How, even if the polytheists gain dominance over you, they would not observe regarding you…

His saying, Exalted is He: "They would not observe regarding you"

10001 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us from Ibn Abi Najih from Mujahid regarding His saying: "They would not observe regarding you," they do not observe regarding Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a pact (ill).
