His saying, the Exalted: "Then they have a plot concerning Our signs."

10291 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, "Then they have a plot concerning Our signs," he said: Mockery and denial.

10292 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Ziyad ibn Ayyub told us, Abu 'Asim told us, from Mastur, he said: Al-Hasan was asked about this verse: "Then they have a plot concerning Our signs," [he said]: A hypocrite, by Allah.

His saying, the Exalted: "Say, Allah is swifter in plotting," the verse.

10293 - My father told us, Ibn Abi 'Umar told us, Sufyan told us, he said: Every "plot" (makr) in the Qur'an refers to an action.

His saying, the Exalted: "It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea."

10294 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Abu Bukayr told us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "On land and sea," he said: The land is the wilderness of the Bedouins, and the sea is the cities and the villages.

His saying, the Exalted: "Until, when you are in the ships and they sail with them on a fair wind."

10295 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam say: He read "Until, when you are in the ships and they sail with them on a fair wind." He mentioned this, then he shifted the address in another narration from him to their changing. He said: "And they sail with them," he said: He shifted the address from them. The first thing is "you are in the ships," and "they sail with them"—he cannot say "they sail with you" while he is addressing a different group of people. Then he mentioned this for their gathering and others: "And they sail with them"—these people and others of the creation—"on a fair wind." So he recited until he reached "sincere to Him in religion."

His saying, the Exalted: "A storm wind comes to them."

10296 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Ya'la told us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from 'Abd Allah ibn Shaddad ibn al-Munad, he said: The wind is from the spirit (rawh) of Allah, so if you see it, ask Allah for its good and seek refuge in Allah from its evil.

His saying, the Exalted: "And they thought that they had been encompassed."

10297 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, 'Uqbah told me, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from Mujahid, he said: Any "thought" (zann) mentioned in the Qur'an is certainty.
