His saying, the Exalted: "It is better than what they gather."

10433 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Abu Khalid told us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "It is better than what they gather," he said: "Better than what the disbelievers gather of wealth." And it was narrated from al-Hasan similarly.

10434 - Ahmad ibn al-Marwazi told us, Ibn al-Mubarak told us, Sharik told us, from Abu Ma'shar, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b, regarding: "So let them rejoice in that. It is better than what they gather," he said: "Of the world."

10435 - He mentioned it from Baqiyyah, from Safwan ibn 'Amr, who said: I heard Ayfa' ibn 'Abd al-Kala'i saying: "When the land tax (kharaj) of Iraq arrived to 'Umar, 'Umar went out with a freed slave of his, and 'Umar began to count the camels, and when it was more than that, 'Umar began to say: 'Praise be to Allah,' and his freed slave would say: 'O Commander of the Faithful, this, by Allah, is from the bounty of Allah and His mercy.' 'Umar then said: 'You have lied, this is not it. Allah says: "In the bounty of Allah and His mercy, so let them rejoice in that. It is better than what they gather," and this is from what you gather.'"

His saying, the Exalted: "Say, 'Have you seen what Allah has sent down to you of provision?'"

10436 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Khulayd told us, from Qatadah, regarding: "Say, 'Have you seen what Allah has sent down to you of provision?'" He says: "Provision that I did not forbid to you, yet you forbid it to yourselves, from your women and your children."

10437 - My father told us, Mahmud ibn Khalid told us, al-Walid told us, al-Awza'i told us, 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz told us... regarding the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: "Say, 'Have you seen what Allah has sent down to you of provision, so you have made of it unlawful and lawful?'"

His saying, the Exalted: "So you have made of it unlawful and lawful."

10438 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed us in what he wrote to me, my paternal uncle told me, my father told me, from his father, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas, regarding the saying: "Say, 'Have you seen what Allah has sent down to you of provision, so you have made of it unlawful and lawful?'" He said: "They are the people of shirk (polytheism); they used to make lawful of the livestock what they wished and make unlawful what they wished."
