His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful."

10890 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah told me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar told me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "Forgiving, Merciful" [meaning]: Forgiving of what had been from them during the state of shirk (polytheism), and Merciful to them after repentance.

His saying, the Exalted: "And it sailed with them through waves like mountains."

10891 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn Abu al-Jumahir told us, Ibn Wahb told us, Ibn Lahi'ah informed me, from Khalid ibn Yazid, from Sa'id ibn Abi Hilal, from Abu Sahl, from Tabi', that he said: "When those who were to be saved from the believers and the disbelievers in the loins and wombs were secured, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed to Noah: 'If I intended to have mercy on any of your people, I would have had mercy on the woman and her child.' Then the ark surged with him between the East and the West, and it passed by Mount Tur and knocked against the mountain."

His saying, the Exalted: "And Noah called his son, and he was in a seclusion."

[The First Aspect]

10892 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' told us, 'Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, and others, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And Noah called his son," he said: "His son, but he differed from him in action and intention."

10893 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' told us, 'Abd al-Razzaq told us, al-Thawri told us, from Abu 'Amir al-Hamdani, from al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "No wife of a prophet ever committed adultery."

It was narrated from 'Ikrimah, Mujahid, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, and al-Dahhak that it was his son.

The Second Aspect:

10894 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, 'Uqbah ibn Khalid told us, Isra'il told us, from Jabir, from Muhammad ibn 'Ali, regarding: "And Noah called his son," he said: "It means in the language of Tayy' [that he is] the son of his wife."

The Third Aspect:

10895 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan ibn Salih told us, al-Walid told us, Khulayd and Sa'id told us, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, who said: "He was not his son."

10896 - Al-Hasan ibn 'Arafah told us, 'Ali ibn Thabit al-Jazari told us, from Ja'far ibn Burqan, from Thabit ibn al-Hajjaj al-Kilabi, regarding the saying of Allah: "And Noah called his son," he said: "He was born upon his bed."
