subsided, and it landed on the bottom of al-Judi. He arrived at a village and named it Thamaniyah (Eighty). One day, they woke up and their tongues had become confused into eighty languages, one of which was the Arabic tongue, so some of them could not understand the speech of others, and Noah would translate for them.

10920 - My father told us, Abu Yusuf al-Saydaphani Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hajjaj told us, Mutarrif told us, al-Mundhir ibn al-Nu'man told us, I heard Wahb ibn Munabbih saying: When Noah, peace be upon him, boarded the ship and arrived at al-Judi—which is a mountain in al-Jazirah—it landed upon it; its keel struck the mountain and it became stationary. We removed its cover and the sun rose, so he sent the crow and the dove to bring him news. The dove came to him with water reaching up to its knees, so he prayed for it; the redness in its feet is from that. He said: The crow held back, feeding on a carcass. Then Noah took branches from a grapevine that was on the ship and planted them. They grew, bore fruit, and ripened instantly. He pressed juice from it, drank, and then slept in the sun, becoming uncovered. Shem and Japheth came with something to cover him. Ham laughed, and they walked backward. Noah awoke from his sleep and it was revealed to him what they had done, so he prayed for Shem and Japheth that prophethood and honor would be in their offspring, and he prayed that blackness and servitude would be in the offspring of Ham.

His saying, the Exalted: "And it was said, 'Away with the wrongdoing people.'"

10920 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn 'Ali told us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim told us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf told us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "the wrongdoing [people]," meaning: the polytheists.

His saying, the Exalted: "And Noah called to his Lord and said, 'My Lord, indeed my son is of my family.'"

10921 - Al-Mundhir ibn Shadhan told us, Ahmad ibn Ishaq told us, Abu al-Ashhab told us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "And Noah called to his Lord and said, 'My Lord, indeed my son is of my family': And indeed You promised me that You would save my family for me, and indeed my son is of my family."

10922 - My father told us, al-Qasim ibn Salam ibn Miskin told us, my father told me, he said: I heard 'Asim al-Jahdari saying regarding the saying of Allah: "And Noah called to his Lord and said, 'My Lord, indeed my son is of my family,'" he said: Ibn 'Abbas used to swear by Allah that he was indeed his son.
