10954 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn 'Amr told us, Salamah told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, in what Muhammad, the freed slave of Zayd ibn Thabit, told me, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas. Allah, may He be glorified and praised, says regarding "for the righteous," meaning: those who fear Allah's punishment by abandoning what they know of guidance, and hope for His mercy by believing in what He has brought.

His saying, the Exalted: "And to 'Ad [We sent] their brother Hud."

10955 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And to 'Ad [We sent] their brother Hud," he said: "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him." 'Ad were in Yemen, and the Ahqaf are the sands. So he came to them and exhorted them and reminded them of what Allah recounted in the Qur'an, but they denied him, disbelieved, and asked him to bring the punishment upon them.

His saying, the Exalted: "He said, 'O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him.'"

10956 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah told me, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told me, and it was from the account of 'Ad, therein it reached me—and Allah knows best—that they were an Arab people, so Allah sent Hud to them, and he was the most moderate among them in lineage and the most noble of them in status, and he commanded them to worship Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, alone.

His saying, the Exalted: "O my people, I do not ask you for it any reward."

10957 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "I do not ask you for it any reward," he said: I do not ask you for any reward for what I invite you to, meaning: any item of worldly gain.

10958 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb told us, Sa'id ibn Abi Ayyub informed me, from 'Ata' ibn Dinar, regarding the saying of Allah: "I do not ask you for what I have brought you any reward."

His saying, the Exalted: "My reward is only from the One who created me."

10959 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Abu al-Jumahir told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah: "My reward is only from the One who created me," meaning: who fashioned me.
