10970 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa told us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said regarding "Indeed, I call Allah to witness, and you [too] bear witness, that I am free from whatever you associate with Allah other than Him": That is, I have disbelieved in your gods, whom you claim have afflicted me with madness. So let them afflict me with what is even greater than that; I have disbelieved in them.
His saying, the Exalted: "So plot against me all together; then do not give me respite."
10971 - My father told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim Duhaym told us, Ayyub ibn Hassan Abu Hassan al-Jursi told us, from Muhammad ibn Muhajir, who said: 'Umar was sitting, and sitting was difficult for him, so he was reclining. With him on that day were Sa'id ibn Khalid, 'Anbasah ibn Sa'id, and people from his cousins. He said: "O cousins, I ask you..." They said: "Yes." Sa'id ibn Khalid said, and he was Bedouin in nature: "By Allah, you desire a matter you will not attain until you attain the sky." He said: So he sat up straight and then said: "So plot against me all together; then do not give me respite." He said: 'Anbasah ibn Sa'id said: "O Commander of the Faithful, do we not have kinship? Do we not have a right?" He said: "Yes, but by Allah, you have no more of a share in it than a shepherd of sheep in Hadramawt." He said: So when they heard that, they dispersed and returned to their homes.
