[His saying, the Exalted: "Compassionate, returning to God"]
[The first interpretation]
11043 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Musa told us, from Isra'il, from Abu Yahya, from Mujahid regarding "compassionate" (awwah), he said: "Learned and certain."
The second interpretation:
11044 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan told us, Shu'ayb ibn Salamah al-Ansari told us, Ibrahim ibn 'Uyaynah told us, Zakariyya told us, from al-Sha'bi, who said: "The compassionate is the one who glorifies God (al-musabbih)."
The third interpretation:
11045 - My father told us, Ibn Abi Ziyad told us, Sayyar told us, from Ja'far ibn Sulayman, from Abu 'Imran al-Jawni, from 'Abd Allah ibn Rabah, from Ka'b regarding His saying: "Indeed, Abraham was forbearing, compassionate," he said: When he would remember the Fire, he would say: "Alas! (awwah) for the punishment of God, alas!"

His saying, the Exalted: "Returning to God (munib)"
11046 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Returning to God," he said: "The returning one is the one who turns toward the obedience of God."
11047 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, 'Uqbah ibn Khalid told me, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from Mujahid and 'Ikrimah, they both said: "The returning one is the humble (al-mukhbit)."
11048 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah, who said: God praises him: "Indeed, Abraham was forbearing, compassionate, returning to God." The returning one is the penitent (al-ta'ib).
His saying, the Exalted: "O Abraham, turn away from this. Indeed, the command of your Lord has come," the verse.
11049 - My father told us, al-Hasan ibn 'Umar ibn Shaqiq told us, Ja'far ibn Sulayman told us, from Abu 'Imran al-Jawni, from 'Abd Allah ibn Rabah, from Ka'b, who said: So Abraham spoke to them regarding the affair of the people of Lot, "If there were among them..." They said: "O Abraham, turn away from this. Indeed, the command of your Lord has come."

١١٠٤٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ثنا زَكَرِيَّا، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ: الأَوَّاهُ الْمُسَبِّحُ.

١١٠٤٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، ثنا سَيَّارٌ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ كَعْبٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّاهٌ قَالَ كَانَ إِذَا ذَكَرَ النَّارَ قَالَ: أَوَّهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ أَوَّهْ
وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ الْقَوْلُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: مُنِيبٌ
١١٠٤٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: مُنِيبٌ قَالَ: الْمُنِيبُ: الْمُقْبِلُ إِلَى طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ.
١١٠٤٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ حَدَّثَنِي عُقْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ وَعِكْرِمَةَ، قالا: المنيب: الْمُخْبِتُ.
١١٠٤٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: اللَّهُ يُثْنِي عَلَيْهِ إنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّاهٌ مُنِيبٌ وَالْمُنِيبُ: التَّائِبُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَعْرَضْ عَنْ هَذَا إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَاءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ الْآيَةَ.
١١٠٤٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ كَعْبٍ قَالَ: فَكَلَّمَهُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمُ فِي أَمْرِ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ إِنْ كَانَ فِيهِمْ قَالُوا يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَذَا إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَاءَ أمر ربك.
