The wording of al-Hakim: When Allah revealed this verse to His Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he recited it to his companions, and among them was an old man—the wording of al-Hakim says, a youth—who said, "O Messenger of Allah, are the stones of Hell like the stones of this world?" The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, a single rock from the rocks of Hell is greater than the mountains of the world." [The man] fell down unconscious, so the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his hand upon his heart and found that he was still alive. He called out to him and said, "Say: There is no god but Allah." He said it, and [the Prophet] gave him glad tidings of Paradise. His companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is it for us alone?" He replied, "Yes." Allah (the Almighty and Majestic) says: "But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens." This is for whoever feared My position and feared My threat.
"And they sought victory, and disappointed was every obstinate tyrant."
12230 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And they sought victory," he said: [It refers] to all the messengers. He means: They sought aid. And regarding His saying: "And disappointed was every obstinate tyrant," he said: One who is hostile to the truth and distances himself from it.
12231 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And they sought victory," he said: The messengers sought aid against their people. "And disappointed was every obstinate tyrant"—he means: [One who is] far from the truth, turning away from it, refusing to say: There is no god but Allah.
12232 - From Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) he said: Allah will gather the creation on one level plane on the Day of Resurrection: the jinn, mankind, beasts, and vermin. Then a neck of fire will emerge and say: "I have been entrusted with every arrogant tyrant, every stubborn one who set up another god alongside Allah." He said: It will pick them up as a bird picks up seeds, then it will contain them. Then it will take them to a city of Fire, which is called such-and-such, and they will dwell therein for three hundred years before the judgment.
His saying, the Exalted: "And he is given to drink of purulent water. He gulps it."
12233 - From Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding His saying: "And he is given to drink of purulent water. He gulps it," he said: "It is brought near to him, and he finds it repulsive. When it is brought near him, it will scald his face and his scalp will fall off. When he drinks it, it will cut his intestines until it exits from his anus."
