12241 - From al-Suddi (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the verse, he said: The example of the deeds of the disbelievers is like ashes struck by the wind, so that nothing of it is seen. Just as that ash was not seen and nothing could be obtained from it, similarly the disbelievers will not be able to obtain anything from their deeds.
His saying, the Exalted: "It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient."
12242 - From Zayd ibn Aslam (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient," he said: They showed intolerance for a hundred years, and were patient for a hundred years. (1)
12243 - From Ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the verse, he said: The people of the Fire will say to one another: "Come, let us weep and beseech Allah the Exalted, for the people of Paradise only attained Paradise through their weeping and beseeching Allah." So they will weep. When they see that this does not benefit them, they will say: "Come, let us be patient, for the people of Paradise only attained Paradise through patience." So they will exercise a level of patience the likes of which has never been seen. When that does not benefit them either, then they will say: "It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient; we have no place of escape." (2)
12244 - From Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), raising it to the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as I recall, regarding His saying: "It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient; we have no place of escape," he said: "The people of the Fire will say: 'Come, let us be patient,' and they will be patient for five hundred years." (3)
His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, Allah promised you the promise of truth..."
12245 - Dukhayn al-Hajari narrated to me, from Uqbah ibn Amir, from the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he said: "When Allah gathers the first and the last [generations], and He judges between them, and finishes the judgment, the believers will say: 'Our Lord has judged between us, so who will intercede for us?' They will say: 'Let us go to Adam'—and he mentioned Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus—and Jesus will say: 'I will guide you to the Unlettered Prophet.' So they will come to me, and Allah will permit me to stand before Him. Then, from my seat, a fragrance will arise, the most pleasant of which anyone has ever smelled, until I come to my Lord and He accepts my intercession, and He will place a light for me from the hair of my head to the nails of my feet. Then the disbelievers will say: 'The believers have found someone to intercede for them, so who will intercede for us? It is none other than Iblis who led us astray.' So they will come to Iblis and say: 'The believers have found someone to intercede for them, so you stand and intercede for us, for you are the one who led us astray.' He will stand, and from his seat, a stench will arise, the foulest of which anyone has ever smelled. Then their wailing will grow louder."
