الترجمة · EN

11474 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Zuhayr ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Mulaykah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding the saying of Allah: "And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her, had he not seen the proof of his Lord." He said: When she determined to seduce him, she adorned herself and then lay back on her bed, and he inclined to her and sat between her legs, loosening his garments. Then it was called out from heaven: "O son of Ya'qub, do not be like a bird whose feathers were plucked so it remained with no feathers." He was not admonished by the call—meaning: he did not desist—until he saw the proof of his Lord: Gabriel in the image of Ya'qub, biting on his two fingers, so he was struck with terror.

11475 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ibn Numayr and Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid, regarding "And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her," he said: He loosened his trousers until he reached his lower garment, then Ya'qub appeared to him and struck his chest, and his desire departed from his fingertips.

11475 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali ibn Mihran narrated to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding his saying: "And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her," she said to him: "O Yusuf, how beautiful is your hair!" He said: "It is the first thing that will scatter from my body." She said: "O Yusuf, how beautiful are your eyes!" He said: "They are the first things to flow to the ground from my body." She said: "O Yusuf, how beautiful is your face!" He said: "It is for the dust to consume." She did not cease [enticing] him until she made him covet her, so she determined to seduce him and he inclined to her, and he entered the house, and she locked the doors. He went to loosen his trousers, and behold, he was faced with the image of Ya'qub standing in the house, biting his finger, saying: "O Yusuf, do not have intercourse with her."

11476 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq regarding his saying: "And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her," she pressed herself upon him, enticing him at one time and threatening him at another, inviting him to a pleasure while she was in need of men, in her beauty, loveliness, and sovereignty. He was a young man in the prime of his life, experiencing the vigor of men just as men experience, until he softened toward her because of what he saw of her passion for him, and he did not fear her until he inclined to her and she determined to seduce him, until they entered some of her chambers. When he inclined and prepared for that, he saw the proof of his Lord and turned away from her, fleeing.

His saying, the Almighty: "Had he not seen the proof of his Lord."

[The first interpretation]

11477 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Abu Husayn, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "Had he not seen the proof of his Lord," he said: Ya'qub appeared to him and struck his chest with his hand, so his desire departed from his fingertips.
