The Saying of the Exalted: "Ta-Ha"

13373 - Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Shaybah al-Wasiti narrated to us, Abu Ahmad - meaning al-Zubayri - narrated to us, Israel narrated to us from Salim al-Aftasi, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "Ta-Ha means 'O man' (Ya rajul)."

It was narrated in this manner from Mujahid, 'Ikrimah, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Muhammad ibn Ka'b, Abu Malik, 'Atiyah al-'Awfi, al-Hasan, Qatadah, al-Dahhak, al-Suddi, and Ibn Abza that they all said: "Ta-Ha means 'O man.'"

13374 - From al-Dahhak, he said: When Allah revealed the Qur'an to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), he and his companions stood by it. The disbelievers of Quraysh said to him: "Allah did not reveal this Qur'an to Muhammad except for him to suffer because of it." So Allah revealed: "Ta-Ha. We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed."

13375 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Ta-Ha," in Nabataean, it means: "Ta, O man."

13376 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Ta-Ha," in Nabataean, it means: "Ta, O man."

13377 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Ta-Ha," he said: "It is like your saying 'O man.'"

13378 - From 'Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "Ta-Ha," he said: "It is like your saying 'O man' in the Abyssinian language."

13379 - From Abu Salih regarding His saying: "Ta-Ha," he said: "It is an Arabized word."

13380 - From Mujahid, he said: "Ta-Ha are the opening letters of the Surah."

13381 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed," he says: "It refers to the prayer. It is like His saying: 'So recite what is easy of it.'" He said: "They used to hang ropes from their chests during prayer."
