from Asbat, from al-Suddi: Then Allah, the Exalted, showed the King a vision in his sleep that terrified him. He saw seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean ones, and seven green ears of corn being eaten by seven dry ones. So he gathered the sorcerers, the soothsayers, and the 'affa', who are the qafa' (experts in physiognomy) and the hahiza (those who divine by observing the flight of birds). He related the vision to them, and they said: "[It is] a mixture of dreams, and we are not learned in the interpretation of dreams."

His saying, the Exalted: "A mixture of dreams."

11649 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir informed us, ‘Ubadah narrated to us, [on the phrase] "a mixture of dreams," he said: "The dreams [that are confused and jumbled]." "And we are not learned in the interpretation of dreams."

11650 - My father narrated to us, ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu‘adh al-Nahwi narrated to us, from ‘Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak, [regarding] His saying: "A mixture of dreams," [meaning]: False dreams.

His saying, the Exalted: "But the one who was saved of the two remembered."

11651 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, who said: When the cupbearer heard from the King what he heard, and his inquiry regarding its interpretation, he remembered Joseph and what he had interpreted for him and for his companion.

His saying: "And remembered."

11652 - And by the same chain, from Mujahid, he said: When the cupbearer heard from the King, he remembered Joseph and what he had interpreted for him and for his companion, and what transpired of that according to what he had said: "I will inform you of its interpretation."

His saying: "After a while."

11653 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Nu‘aym narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from ‘Asim, from Abu Razin, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] "And remembered after a while," he said: "After a time."

11654 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] "And remembered after a while," he said: "After a time," and it is: The term which Allah knows.

11655 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "And remembered after a while," he says: After years.
