His saying, the Almighty: "He said, 'You are in a worse position.'"

11840 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid (1): His saying: "You are in a worse position, and Allah is most knowing of what you describe"—Yusuf, peace be upon him, says it.

11841 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq: When Yusuf heard it, he said, "You are in a worse position," secretly within himself, and he did not reveal it to them.

His saying, the Almighty: "And Allah is most knowing of what you describe."

11842 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And Allah is most knowing of what you describe"—i.e., what you say.

11843 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid narrated to us, Shu‘ayb ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And Allah is most knowing of what you describe"—i.e., of what you lie about.

His saying, the Almighty: "They said, 'O Chief, indeed he has a father, a very old man.'"

11844 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas, the freedman of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Then they said to Yusuf: "O Chief, indeed he has a father, a very old man."

His saying, the Almighty: "So take one of us in his place. Indeed, we see you as one of the doers of good."

11845 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq: Then they said to Yusuf: "Indeed he has a father, a very old man, so take one of us in his place. Indeed, we see you as one of the doers of good"—i.e., indeed we see that as an act of kindness (ihsan) from you if you do it.

His saying, the Almighty: "He said, 'Allah forbid that we should take except him with whom we found our property. Indeed, we would then be unjust.'"

11846 - Through the same chain from Ibn Ishaq: He said, "Allah forbid that we should take except him with whom we found our property. Indeed, we would then be unjust." He said: "We would not take an innocent person on account of suspicion, for that would be injustice if we were to do it."
