the needy and fills the lap of the orphan. They said: This must be from us, the people of the house. So they looked, and behold, it was Yusuf ibn Ya‘qub.

11939 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi ‘Umar al-‘Adani narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi al-Jild, who said: His brother said to him: O Aziz, I have lost a brother, and I have never seen anyone who resembles him more than you, for it is as if he were the sun. Yusuf said to him: I ask the God of Ya‘qub to have mercy on your youth and to return your brother to you.

11940 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas, the freedman of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: He did not mean by the mention of his brother what he himself had done to him when he took him, for that was [to facilitate] the separation between him and his brothers when they did to Yusuf what they did. When he said that to them, he lifted the veil for them and they recognized him. They said: "Are you indeed Yusuf?" He said: "I am Yusuf, and this is my brother. Allah has certainly favored us. Indeed, he who fears Allah and is patient, then indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of the doers of good."

His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, he who fears Allah and is patient."

11941 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja‘far al-Razi narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi‘ ibn Anas, who said: It is written in the first Book: The envious person is not harmed by his envy, and the envied one, if he is patient, his patience will save him, because Allah says: "He who fears Allah and is patient, then indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of the doers of good."

11942 - It is mentioned from Yusuf ibn Musa, ‘Asim ibn Mudarris, the imam of the congregational mosque, narrated to us, Sufyan al-Thawri narrated to us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim regarding: "He who fears Allah and is patient," he said: He who fears [committing] adultery and is patient in celibacy.

His saying, the Almighty: "They said, 'By Allah, certainly has Allah chosen you over us.'"

11943 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid narrated to us, Shu‘ayb ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "They said, 'By Allah, certainly has Allah chosen you over us.'" This was after he made himself known to them. They encountered a forbearing man.

11944 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq: "Chosen you over us," meaning: Allah has favored you over us.

His saying, the Almighty: "And indeed, we were sinners."

11945 - And through the same chain, from Ibn Ishaq: "And indeed, we were sinners," meaning: in what we did to you.
