a prophet." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard this, so he returned to Abu Jahl, confronted him, warned him, and said: "I do not see you stopping until what befell your uncle befalls you." He then said to Abu Sufyan: "As for you, you did not say what you said except out of tribal zeal." Then this verse was revealed: "And when those who disbelieved see you, they take you not except in ridicule," [to the end of] the verse.

The Statement of the Exalted: "Man was created of haste."

13656 - From Mujahid, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His statement: "Man was created of haste," he said: Adam, when he was created after everything else at the end of the day on the day of creation. When the soul was made to run into his eyes, his tongue, and his head, and it had not yet reached his lower parts, he said: "O my Lord, hasten the completion of my creation before the sun sets."

The Statement of the Exalted: "Nor will they be protected from Us."

13657 - From Ibn Abbas, regarding His statement: "Nor will they be protected from Us," he said: They will not be aided.

The Statement of the Exalted: "Say, 'Who can protect you?'"

13658 - From Mujahid, regarding His statement: "Say, 'Who can protect you?'" he said: He guards you.

13659 - From Ibn Abbas, regarding His statement: "Nor will they be protected from Us," he said: They will not be assisted.

The Statement of the Exalted: "Or do they have gods who can protect them against Us? They are not able to help themselves."

13660 - From Qatadah, regarding His statement: "Or do they have gods who can protect them against Us? They are not able to help themselves," he means the gods. "Nor will they be protected from Us," he says: They will not be protected from Allah by any good. And regarding His statement: "Do they not see that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders?" he said: Al-Hasan used to say: It is the emergence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) over those who fought him, land by land and people by people. And His statement: "Are they the ones who will overcome?" meaning they are not the ones who will overcome, but rather the Messenger is the one who is the victor. And regarding His statement: "Say, 'I only warn you by revelation,'" meaning by this Qur'an. "But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned," he says: The disbeliever is deaf to the Book of Allah; he does not hear it, nor does he benefit from it, nor does he understand it as the people of faith hear it. And regarding His statement: "And if there touches them a blast," he says: If a punishment strikes them.
