and so on. Some of them said: "It happened such and...", alluding to the people. Some of them were pleased by that. Then, eighteen consecutive verses were revealed, refuting those who slandered 'Aisha, declaring her innocence, and disciplining the believers through them. Thus, [the verse] was revealed: "Verily, those who brought forth the slander."
14208 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "Verily, those who brought forth the slander," meaning: the lie. It was also narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan similarly.
His saying: "a group among you."
14209 - By the same chain, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "a group among you," meaning: 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy the hypocrite, Hassan ibn Thabit, Mistah ibn Uthatha, and Hamnah bint Jahsh.
14210 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, [who said]: Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, [who said]: Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, [who said]: Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Verily, those who brought forth the slander are a group among you," and the group among them is 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy, among a company with him.
His saying: "Do not consider it a bad thing for you."
14211 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "Do not consider it a bad thing for you," [meaning] he says to 'Aisha and Safwan: Do not consider the lie that was said about you a bad thing for you. His saying: "Rather it is good for you," [means] however, you will be rewarded for that. His saying: "to every man among them," meaning: whoever delved into the affair of 'Aisha. His saying: "what he has earned of the sin," meaning: the sin is in proportion to how much he delved into her affair.
14212 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, [who said]: Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, [who said]: Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, [who said]: Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "Do not consider it a bad thing for you," because you will be rewarded for what was said to you of slander. His saying: "Rather it is good for you," meaning by good: the admonition, the steadfastness, and the clarification, so that was good for them.
His saying: "and he who took upon himself the greater part thereof."
14213 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Usamah narrated to us from his book, [saying]: Hisham ibn 'Urwah narrated to us, [saying]: 'Urwah informed me from 'Aisha, [who] said: When what was mentioned of my affair was mentioned, and I was unaware of it, and...
وَكَذَا، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: كَذَا، وَعَرَّضَ بِالْقَوْم، وَبَعْضُهُمْ أعجبه ذلك، فنزلت ثمانية عَشْرَةَ آيَةً مُتَوَالِيَاتٌ بِتَكْذِيبِ مَنْ قَذَفَ عَائِشَةَ، وببراءتها ويؤدب فيها المؤمنين فنزلت:
إن الذين جاؤ بِالإِفْكِ.
١٤٢٠٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ ابْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، فِي قَوْلِ الله: إن الذين جاؤ بِالإِفْكِ يًعْنِى الْكَذِبَ، وَرُوِيَ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
قوله: عُصْبَةٌ مِنْكُمْ.
١٤٢٠٩ - بِهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: عصبة منكم يعني: عبد الله ابن أبي المنافق وحسان بن ثابت ومسطح بن أُثَاثَةَ وَحَمْنَةَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ.
١٤٢١٠ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بن الفضل بن وموسى، ثنا محمد بن علي ابن الْحَسَنِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، ثنا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ الذين جاؤ بِالإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌ مِنْكُمْ وَالْعُصْبَةُ مِنْهُمْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ فِي نَفَرٍ مَعَهُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: لا تَحْسَبُوهُ شَرًّا لَكُمْ.
١٤٢١١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: لا تَحْسَبُوهُ شَرًّا لَكُمْ يَقُولُ لِعَائِشَةَ وَصَفْوَانَ: لَا تَحْسَبُوا الَّذِي قِيلَ لكم من الكذب شر لكم، قوله: بل هو خير لكم لَكِنَّكُمْ تُجْزَوْنَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ، قَوْلُهُ: لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ منهم يَعْنِي مَنْ خَاضَ فِي أَمْرِ عَائِشَةَ قَوْلُهُ: ما اكتسب من الإثم يَعْنِي الْإِثْمَ عَلَى قَدْرِ مَا خَاضَ فِيهِ مِنْ أَمْرِهَا.
