'Ata', from Sa'id ibn Jubayr: "they are the liars in the sight of Allah," meaning those who slandered 'Aisha, that is [as expressed] in their statement.
His saying: "And had it not been for the grace of Allah upon you and His mercy."
Its explanation has already preceded.
14232 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed us, [saying]: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "And had it not been for the grace of Allah upon you and His mercy"—this [refers to] those who spoke and spread that talk.
His saying: "in this world and in the Hereafter."
14233 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "in this world and in the Hereafter," meaning [regarding] the punishment. And His saying: "would have touched you for that which you plunged," meaning: for that which you said. And His saying: "therein," meaning in the slander. And His saying: "a great torment," he says: for there would have touched you from the punishment in this world and in the Hereafter—in it [the verse] is a reversal [of the sequence].
His saying, the Almighty: "When you were propagating it with your tongues."
14234 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Nafi' ibn 'Umar, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, that she used to recite: "When you were receiving it with your tongues" (idh taliqunahu), and he says: It is the 'walq' (the rapid/casual spreading) of speech. And Ibn Abi Mulaykah said: She is more knowledgeable about it than others.
14235 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Shibl, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, that he used to recite: "When you were receiving it with your tongues" (idh talaqawnahu), and he said: One of you narrates it from another.
14236 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "When you were receiving it with your tongues," and that is when they waded into the affair of 'Aisha. So some of them said: "I heard from so-and-so saying such-and-such," and others said: "Indeed, it was such-and-such." So He said: "receiving it with your tongues," meaning: one narrates it from another; you heard from so-and-so, and you heard from so-and-so. And in His saying: "with your mouths," meaning with your tongues, meaning those who slandered her. And in His saying: "of which you had no knowledge," meaning: without knowing that what you said of the slander was true. And in the saying of Allah: "And you thought it trivial, and you thought..."
