and your public deeds, for no hidden thing is concealed from Him; darkness is light to Him, and the secret is public to Him. Whoever can die while having a good opinion of Allah, let him do so, and there is no power except by Allah.

He said: "Yes."
The saying of the Most High: "For what they used to do."
14301 - Abu Shaybah Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, [saying]: Minjab ibn al-Harith al-Tamimi narrated to us, [saying]: Abu 'Amir al-Asadi informed us, [saying]: Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Ubayd al-Maktab, from al-Fudayl ibn 'Amr al-Fuqaymi, from al-Sha'bi, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: "We were with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he laughed until his premolars appeared. Then he said: 'Do you know why I am laughing?' We said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said: 'It is due to the servant arguing with his Lord on the Day of Resurrection. He will say: "O my Lord, did You not grant me protection from injustice?" He will say: "Yes." Then he will say: "I will not accept any witness against me except from my own self." It will be said: "You are sufficient as a witness against yourself today, and [so are] the noble [angels] who are over you." Then his mouth will be sealed, and it will be said to his limbs: "Speak." So they will speak of his deeds, then he will be allowed to speak again, and he will say: "Away with you and ruin! It was you for whom I was struggling."'
His saying: "On that day."
14302 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, [saying]: 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "On that day"—meaning: in the Hereafter.

14303 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, [saying]: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "On that day Allah will pay them back in full their true due"—meaning their true deeds; the people of truth for their truth, and the people of falsehood for their falsehood.
His saying: "Their due."
14304 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tihrani narrated to us, [saying]: Hafs ibn 'Umar narrated to us, [saying]: al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding the saying of Allah: "On that day Allah will pay them back in full their true due"—he said: [meaning] their reckoning. Ibn 'Abbas said: "Everything in the Qur'an [referring to] 'the due' (al-din) is the reckoning (al-hisab)," and something similar was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr.
