Asbat reported from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Darknesses, one above another." He said: The darknesses are three: the darkness of the night, the darkness of the sea, and the darkness of the clouds. Likewise, the heart of the disbeliever has three darknesses: the darkness of the heart, the darkness of the chest, and the darkness of the inner being, just as He set a parable for the hearts of the believers.
14691 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, [saying]: Sa'id reported from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Darknesses, one above another." He said: This is a parable of the disbeliever's work; it is misguidances in which he wanders, not finding guidance.
14692 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: Asbagh reported to us, [saying]: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "Darknesses, one above another." He said: It is evil, some of it above other [parts].
His saying, the Exalted: "When he brings out his hand, he can hardly see it."
14693 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Sulayman ibn Harb reported to us, [saying]: Hammad ibn Zayd reported to us, from Bakr, from Maymun, from al-Hasan regarding this verse: "When he brings out his hand, he can hardly see it." He said: Have you not seen a man who says: "By Allah, I did not see it, and I could hardly see it."
14694 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Zuray' reported to us, [saying]: Sa'id reported from Qatadah regarding His saying: "When he brings out his hand, he can hardly see it." He said: He finds no way out and no exit; he is blind within it, not seeing.
His saying: "And he for whom Allah has not made light."
14695 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, [saying]: al-Husayn ibn 'Ali reported to us, [saying]: 'Amir ibn al-Furat reported to us, [saying]: Asbat reported from al-Suddi: "And he for whom Allah has not made light," he says: He has no faith.
His saying: "Do you not see that Allah, He is glorified by..."
14697 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Salih reported to us, [saying]: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "is glorified by Him" (yusabbihu lahu), he says: He prays to Him.
His saying: "is glorified by Him whoever is in the heavens and the earth."

ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَوْلُهُ: ظُلُمَاتٌ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ قَالَ: الظُّلُمَاتُ ثَلاثُ ظُلُمَاتٍ: ظُلْمَةُ اللَّيْلِ، وَظُلْمَةُ الْبَحْرِ، وَظُلْمَةُ السَّحَابِ، وَكَذَلِكَ قَلْبُ الْكَافِرِ ثَلاثُ ظُلُمَاتٍ، ظُلْمَةُ الْقَلْبِ، وَظُلْمَةُ الصَّدْرِ، وَظُلْمَةُ الْجَوْفِ، كَمَا ضَرَبَ مَثَلُ قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ.
١٤٦٩١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قوله: ظُلُمَاتٌ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ هَذَا مَثَلُ عَمَلِ الْكَافِرِ ضَلالاتٌ مُتَسَكِّعٌ فِيهَا لَا يَهْتَدِي.
١٤٦٩٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، أَنْبَأَ أَصْبَغُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: ظُلُمَاتٌ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ قَالَ: شَرٌّ بَعْضُهُ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِذَا أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَاهَا.
١٤٦٩٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ بَكْرٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي هَذِهِ الآيَةِ: إِذَا أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَاهَا قَالَ: أَمَا رَأَيْتَ الرَّجُلَ يَقُولُ: وَاللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْتُهَا وَمَا كِدْتُ أَنْ أَرَاهَا.
١٤٦٩٤ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يحي، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: إِذَا أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَاهَا قَالَ: لَا يَجِدْ مِنْهَا مَنْفَذًا وَلا مَخْرَجًا أَعْمَى فِيهَا لَا يُبْصِرُ.
قَوْلُهُ: وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجْعَلِ اللَّهُ لَهُ نُورًا.
١٤٦٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَامِرُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ: وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجْعَلِ اللَّهُ لَهُ نُورًا يَقُولُ: فَمَا لَهُ إِيمَانٌ.
قَوْلُهُ: أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ.
١٤٦٩٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قوله: يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ يَقُولُ: يُصَلِّي لَهُ.
قَوْلُهُ: يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَنْ في السماوات وَالْأَرْضِ.
